Physical Description Lucian would strike most people like any other man, well kept, presentable and polite but most would perhaps notice the eyes, a trait of being Betazoid. His hair is short but styled, the odd wrinkle here and there which could be attributed to age or the job that he does and the stress that comes with it. Some facial hair could be seen depending if he shaves it clean or lets it grow, it matches his hair colour also. When looked at there could be seen to contain a depth beyond what the uniform might attach to him, while this might be true it also is a source of strength for him and it's clear in how he holds himself.

Personality & Traits

General Overview Lucian has a calculating presence about him, confident, strategic should the need arise, driven and focused on the task at hand. Some may view him as forward or slightly cold but this is partially due to being Betazoid, the slightly less inhibited and direct approach doesn’t always agree with some people. A caring man by nature but one that keeps his work and personal life apart lest they cross paths and put him in a difficult position later down the road. A good listener when it comes to suggestions from fellow officers but not afraid to use his abilities to obtain extra depth to a situation, especially sensing the emotional state of a person that has his attention.

Lucian is slow to anger but if pushed the blast radius is considerable. While this is rare to take place it should be noted that anyone pushing Lucian to this extent must be intentionally trying to do so.

He has been known to think outside of the box when addressing a situation, a trait that not everyone would agree with given his rank and position but in the past it has served him well when pressed for such a line of thought.
Strengths & Weaknesses +Training, Leadership, diplomacy, confidence, empathic & telepathic abilities.

-Can sometimes come across as cold or aloof.
-Can have a temper if pushed to it
-Has little patience for ignorance or stupidity when the lives of others are at risk.
-Can be irritated by strong emotions from large groups of people if unprepared.
Ambitions Lucian while not overly ambitious in his goals does like to feel that in some way he is growing both professionally and personally. Initially he was content in his previous role but his advancement to Captain of the U.S.S Dreadnought and promotion to Commodore has broadened his horizons.
Hobbies & Interests 1, Enjoys a good novel but paper based, not via a holodeck.
2, Likes to cook though has issues with portion control, often making too much of a thing.
3, Classic puzzles, the kind made from cardboard that take hours to piece together.

Personal History Lucian grew up like any other young Betazoid, his youth was not extraordinary or otherwise remarkable, some even questioned if he'd make anything of himself in his adult years. His education though standard he muddled through with mid level grades and some wondered if he was asserting himself properly to achieve the expected results, but this trend persisted.

The major turning point was day 1 after graduation from college. With transcripts in hand he walked to the nearest Starfleet recruiting office and signed up much to his parents displeasure but they reluctantly accepted his choice. His mid level grades limited what fields he could enter but his task was to enlist, what he wanted could come later. To Lucian it was easier to move about while a part of something. Being a Betazoid most considered he'd enlist as a Counsellor, given the natural abilities he possessed but Lucian signed up for Engineering.

It was here that his interest started to spark. He found the tests and assignments engaging, challenging even so he applied himself as best he could. He'd developed a knack for 'out of the box' thinking when approaching situations, sometimes even unconventional but his instructors couldn't argue if the results spoke for themselves.

During his final year at the Academy the Dean of Starfleet Engineering met with Lucian to discuss his progress and approaches. Initially Lucian thought he was in trouble for not strictly conforming to expectations, but the Dean wanted to offer him the opportunity to visit the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. Lucian eagerly accepted and spent 3 days at the yards shadowing a team working on one of the few remaining Excelsior class starships.

On his return to the Academy he used the experience gained and his enjoyment of it to make sure he graduated top of his class. The only grey cloud was his parents didn't attend, a detail that would haunt him for a while. Freshly minted Ensign he was sent back to Utopia Planitia to the same team and leadership team that he'd shadowed before, a few familiar faces awaited him though a few had moved on. The handholding of the Academy days was gone, Lucian was thrust into the thick of things, applying his training and his developing reputation to complete tasks assigned to him as part of an engineering team. He remained at the yards for a few years before his first shipboard assignment. He'd been on starships before but they were routine systems tests that lasted a few days at most before returning to the yards.

Engineer on the Norway Class, U.S.S. Ockham and promotion to Lt. Junior Grade. His service there was marred by troubles with the Chief Engineer who felt threatened by what he saw as a 'prodigy' from the Fleet Yards. Captain Tess Mital had to step in after her First Officer brought the 4th report of the situation to her attention, the result, Lucian was taken from Engineering and placed into Operations. Not wanting to lose a young and clearly talented officer from her ship she felt this was the best choice of action when Lucian declined an offer to transfer.

The change from Engineering to Operations wasn't as big of a hurdle as Lucian thought it would be, he could still apply himself as he had before, only the setting had changed. 2 years later he was promoted to Lieutenant for his heroic actions saving the lives of an away team that had been left stranded due to a damaged shuttle craft. Though the shuttle wouldn't fly again he was able to keep some power going long enough for the medical device keeping another crew member alive, functional using salvaged parts of the power grid, thruster housing, a phaser and debris from the shuttles hull.

At 32 he found himself a Lt.Commander and back at the Utopia Yards, this time leading 3 teams assigned to him. The problem was, having sampled the stars he wanted to go back out there. 4 years later he spoke to his commanding officer, Captain William Houghton and was informed that the only way he'd be able to leave without requesting a transfer would be to pass the bridge officers exam. Lucian would fail the course twice before passing, like most, he failed the section that required sending a crewman to their deaths. It was a bitter pill for him to swallow, he understood the risks that came with the uniform but to knowingly order someone to do something that would result in death seemed...wasteful to him.

Captain Houghton was true to his word, now 36 Lucian was promoted to Commander. He was offered a teaching spot at Starfleet Academy, a position at the Starfleet Corps of Engineers, a Chief Engineers role on a Nebula Class, but the last was what caught his attention. First Officer of the Galaxy Class U.S.S. Longshore. The change from orange to a red uniform was easily accepted but the opportunity like any other fueled his next step.

Captain Fiona Enims was an experienced Captain from the days of the Dominion war, she made Lucian feel welcome and she trusted his expertise and experience across his fields of knowledge. That all changed during an attack that was baited with a crippled freighter, during the rescue efforts and the ships shields down raiders attacked the ship resulting in massive casualties. Captain Enims was killed as too were most of the Bridge staff. With only 3 remaining officers and himself they managed to hide the ship in a nebula. While this resulted in the deaths of the 29 people left on the crippled freighter it saved over 1,000 remaining crew of the Longshore despite extensive damage. While the nebula created problems of its own Lucian had to face the fact that not only was he the Acting Captain, but all eyes were now on him. Coupled with the strong emotions sweeping the ship he had to maintain a composure of strength and stability.

Using probes on a multi vector approach Lucian used his initial entry course and speed from the logs to route the probes around him like a net. The result was the ability to send out a single pre-recorded high intensity distress call on subspace. With no way for the probes to be tracked to him and the Longhorn it was the safest approach.

The USS Achillies and Santa Ana arrived on scene 4 hours later. Encoded in the distress beacon was instructions to signal it was safe to emerge. The two ships would act as beacons, sending out energy pulses, Lucian would set a course directly between the two ships to freedom. At 40 years old Lucian was promoted to Captain of the Longhorn following its repairs and launch.

His time on the Longhorn while not the kind to cement his name in legend was routine for lack of a better word. Supply runs, patrols, system surveys, logging astronomical anomalies, nothing that would otherwise stir the tapestries for greatness, but he didn't aspire for it. As Captain he held a position of prestige, of a Galaxy Class no less and he seemed content with that. He had no aspirations for Admiralty as he knew such a rank would take him from the centre chair to a chair behind a desk at command.

That all changed not long after his 44th birthday. He was reassigned back to Utopia Planitia, a move he saw as backwards as he watched the Longhorn leave orbit from the orbital array. It wasn't until he got his new orders a few weeks later....

Command U.S.S. Dreadnought, Valkyrie Class at earliest convivence.

Lucian was hesitant, the Dreadnought was well known for many reasons and not all of them good, the latest resulting in the death of an equally well known and very respected Admiral.

Vice Admiral Nicola Ris met Lucian on board and after a brief tour of the ship promoted Lucian to Commodore. She explained that she wanted to be honest with Lucian, the Dreadnought since her construction had been a source of contrition between many high-ranking flag officers. His assignment and promotion were to silence those issues, she didn't feel it fair for Lucian to go out into the stars without knowing the facts of his reassignment and what it meant. She would understand if knowing this he'd turn the position and rank down, he didn't. He understood that he was in a way being used as a scapegoat of sorts to quell a larger issue, but he refused to let it define his command or his ability.
