Hi All,

It's been a while since I wrote one of these.

So as many of you may have read, the story of Admiral S'iraa has come to a close.

S'iraa for me was my very first character starting in April of 1998 aboard the Akira Class U.S.S. Atlantis as an Operations Officer. Over time he's grown, developed, changed uniforms from yellow to red, rising to the rank of Admiral back in my Bravo Fleet days when appointed as it's commanding officer.

Some of you have been around for much of the characters time, for others the Admiral was the first encounter but for me it's been a journey of growth and seeing imagination develop from what was originally a GCSE exam time filler to my most cherished character.

Closing that chapter wasn't easy, it was something I dwelled on for a long time, hesitated for even longer. The post 'An End To Peace' took 6 weeks to write because it wasn't an easy one for me to do and thank you to Ferrand (CAG) & Victoria (CEO) for contributing to it.

So why close the chapter?

I'm sure most people will understand the comfort of the known, for me S'iraa was easy to play but it felt over time more and more like a fall-back measure instead of actively trying to develop anything. The easy and comfortable choice is pleasant and stress free but where is the challenge? As time went on I wanted more, S'iraa started to stagnate, become bland as a character and as comfortable as it was to keep hold of him, I also felt my enjoyment of writing was diminishing. Comfortable yes, exciting...no.

I knew if I just shelved S'iraa that the temptation would be there to revive him later down the line. I didn't want to do that. The S'iraa character mean a great deal to me, but if I was to make writing enjoyable again, I had to do something for myself. I needed a clean and effective break.

So that is what I did. I'd like to thank everyone that was a part of S'iraa's history, interacted with him, served with and for one character...nearly got eaten by......Hhmmm good times.

I hope my new character; Commodore Lucian Marshall will bring back to me the enjoyment of writing again....I would say he won't try to put people in harms way but.....I won't. What is duty and honour of the uniform without a sprinkling of potential death round every corner.

I do have 1 or two more posts in the works with people to wrap this mission up and then I will begin the new mission and bring the Commodore on board.

Kind Regards

Steve

» Some Updates.

Hello One & All,

A few updates for everyone.

Firstly, as some of you may have noticed we have a new addition to our Discord, Miach has taken on the responsibility of making sure we are all mentally healthy and assist in the recovery from all the terrors and torments that I subject you all to.

Say hi, feel free to reach out for joint posts, don't worry what you say in session is covered by confidentiality....just don't complain when something bad happens by total and utter coincidence right after. Totally coincidental, honest.

Welcome to the Dreadnought.

Secondly, some of you may or may not have heard that Mark, one of the original members of the DN nearly 16 years ago now was struggling with his character. It's fair to say that Mark has given it a solid and honest try with the character all this time given that its been his only character and even engaging with Ayla in perhaps the longest RL time based in-character relationship I've seen on a simm, going from single, relationship, engaged and married in real time, it was honestly a pleasure to witness.

I know some of you spoke to him offering words of advice and suggestions to help, even when he was putting departure on the table for consideration. He gave all the options serious thought and consideration at length discussing with me his train of thought and such.

He has however elected to shelve the character in exchange for a new one. M.Captain Wolfe Sean. I'm sure Jack and Sam will be happy to have Mark back in Green again like the days of old.

I hope you find enjoyment with Wolfe and I look forward to see what this new character is like.

If anyone has any problems, issues, queries, worries, moans or groans please do reach out via DM on the site or via Discord.

Cheers All.

Steve

» Newest Member - Lt Cmdr Victoria Aries - CEO

Posted on Wed Aug 30th, 2023 @ 9:34pm by Captain Ethan De Havilland in General News

Hi All,

I just wanted to announce the addition of our newest member, Lt.Cmdr Victoria Aries who filled the role of Chief Engineering Officer.

A daunting task I know considering the size of the ship and its engines but a challenge well embraced nonetheless.

Please make her feel welcome on board, and try not to scare her away with horror stories of the past, we still don't have a Counselor to run to so guess you lot are on your own. Welcome messages and JP starts are encouraged on Discord or private messages on the site.

If anyone has any questions, queries, worries, moans or groans...message me.

» RELAUNCH - U.S.S. Dreadnought

Posted on Wed Jan 25th, 2023 @ 9:45pm by Captain Ethan De Havilland in General News

Hello One and All,

Today the Simm is relaunched following the hiatus due to my brain tumour and subsequent treatment. The tumour was sucsessfully removed and though the recovery and rehabilitation took longer then expected I have fully recovered.

During my recovery many people informed me that there was still an interest in the simm and it launching again. I have waited till I was properly able to give the simm its due and attention to relaunch it. Start how you mean to go on and such.

With this relaunch I am hoping to inject the same passion and zeal I had before, and the unending trend of trying to kill the crew, because what fun would life be without some danger right?

In any event, I look forward to see the Dreadnought take off again on new adventures and reading the content it's player base creates.

Regards

Steve

» First Officer Departure

Posted on Mon Feb 28th, 2022 @ 4:47pm by Captain Ethan De Havilland in General News

Hi All,

Sadly we have lost our First Officer, Lt.Cmdr Nimeeh Vixil.

Having filled the role for a good while she has elected to step down. We wish her the best for the future while I begin the effort to find a new First Officer.

In the meantime, things will continue as normal for the mission.

I am aware from some people are having issues receiving emails from the NOVA when it comes to saved posts, new posts, and PM's. I am having this looked into and thank you for your continued patience.

Many thanks.

Steve
