Mission:
The Emerald Road
Location: U.S.S. Indefatigable.
Timeline: Prior to Captains Arrival.
Changing ships was never an easy thing as it always felt like I was leaving something behind. At this stage I didn't even know if we would be going back to the Dreadnought or if this would be our new home but what I did know was that now was what mattered, everything else came second. I had made sure Ayla and Miracle were ok, I knew arrangements had to be made for daycare for Miracle so that she was cared for while we were both on duty.
The downtime was nice however as it gave us a chance to bond again, to be a family and come closer together. Something even I admitted I knew I'd been letting the family down on as I'd been so busy.
So here I was now standing on the Bridge of a Prometheus class starship, even as I flicked through all the fancy features, especially the MVAM I couldn't help but be impressed. This ship was a warship, the MVAM screamed that and having read about it I was keen to see it in action because this crew always seemed to find action. I'd run a systems check, not that I needed to as the ship had just had a total systems review, diagnostic and even had the UP seal of approval. Considering there were some of the best and brightest engineers at UP that was enough for me when it came to assurances that everything worked as intended.
I had checked that we had a full load out of torpedoes, Quantum torpedoes only, no photons on this ship. I was surprised to see that the ships magazines were armoured, more so than usual but then I considered that this ships MVAM might expose more of the ships internals to weapons fire than other single hulled ships. I particularly liked the emergency blow off doors which if there was an explosion they would blow out giving all that explosive force or at least a majority of it somewhere to go other than the rest of the ship.
I had cross checked the targeting sensors with the yard we were birthed at and they were spot on, more so that the Dreadnoughts. It reminded me that if we did get the Dreadnought back to request a stop off at UP for an alignment. With the smaller ship though meant not everyone could join us, a friend of mine was reassigned to Germany, to a weapons training school. I had to admit I was a little envious of him because having dirt under my feet and playing with weapons reminded me on my marine days.
I missed those days but I wouldn't forget them, those days introduced me to Ayla, with her I'd found the better half in my life. She had seen me at my worst and supported me at my best and together we had made a family. The death of Marcie hit home hard, everything we tried, everything Dr Patrovski tried didn't work and I knew the man. He'd flip planets or die trying if it meant curing Marcie and I knew the loss effected him too. I could only hope that in time things between Ayla and I would heal and that she'd be open to trying again. I wouldn't rush her though, she could take her time, well, mostly as we are not getting any younger.
When everything was good on the Bridge I left it and headed down to the Tactical Office where most of the non bridge systems were routed. Everything in the room had its place and it was amazing. One console listed phaser efficiency of each and every phaser coil, energy discharge rate, power output. It was like a sickbay for weapons and the team seemed ready to fine tune everything at a moments notice. I walked into my office and I couldn't help but be impressed with all the holographic displays and interfaces available. There was a desk sure but with all this I doubted I'd be sitting at it.
"Is everything alright Sir?"
I turned to see an Ensign at my door. "Yes, everything's fine, better than fine actually I was just looking at everything. I've never served on this class of ship."
"Oh, you are from the Dreadnought?"
"I am, Commander Bawden, Chief Tactical."
"Ensign Smiths, with the S. Weapons officer."
Wow, friendly staff. I could see I was going to like it here.
