Ayla moved through the ship, getting familiar with the new ship that they was going to serve on for a brief stint while Dreadnought underwent repairs. A lot of the crew were of the new ship that would dislike the intrusion of a whole new command structure from the Dreadnought. It was prevalent amongst the junior officers in the Science Department.
"I tell you, the ship is going to the rats!" One Junior Officer spoke, unaware that Ayla had stopped just around the corner out of sight.
"Maybe we should let loose a few Caitians to remove the Rodent problem." Another spoke with a snicker and getting a few in return.
Ayla quietly ran a voice recognition program to find out who the speakers were. She quietly set in motion to have them simply removed for the duration that she was onboard the ship. Having them assigned to the starbase they was currently docked at.
Ayla stepped into view, stilling anymore conversation. She looked at the two Officers with a smile. "Yooz two will be reassigned in a few moments. So use the time to pack yooz personal stuff." As she continued through the section, inspecting the equipment and doing an on the spot inventories to make sure Science was well stocked and prepped for any science phenomena that they may run across. Also to study the effects of travelling at high warp.
Rest of the department personnel wondered at how she could get things done so quickly as they waited while watching the two.
The two face fell when they was inform via ship public address system that they was being transferred to the Starbase and had a few minutes to vacate the ship.
Ayla smiled softly and wished the two best of luck on their new temporary assignment. Then resumed her duty to make sure Science was up to speed.
When she settled in her new office, giving her time to relax and to see to the Department's paperwork, her mind drifted back to her annual check up with Doctor Amanda.
... you're reaching the maximum weight that is healthy for you. You need to watch what you eat." Amanda spoke looking up from her medical PADD. "Cut back on the starchy foods and eat more vegetables." While settling down on a nearby stool.
"Itz in our genes to get this way. At least for the females." Ayla spoke a bit defiantly. Looking Amanda in the eyes.
"I did the full research on your species and having a lot of starch in your diet will not do you any good. There are Fleet regulations also to be met." Amanda spoke sternly not giving ground. "I could make this an order and reprogram your replicators to a more acceptable dietary regimen, Commander."
Ayla sighed and nodded, knowing full well that even a medical officer could overrule the most senior rank of a ship. "Squeakies," In a tone of compliance.
"How are you dealing with your lost of your youngest?" Amanda asked in a caring tone as she observed Ayla.
"Iz miss her, but come to terms that even the Great Mice has their reasons." Ayla spoke calmly as she felt a small tug of loss. "Iz have to focus on the living. Mez Mate and Mez Daughter, Miracle."
"I noticed that your daughter hasn't come in for her check up." Amanda looking down at her PADD and then back to Ayla. "I hoped that she would be with you."
"For this Temp duty. She will be staying with her Uncle Steve." Ayla spoke softly unsure if that was a wise choice at the moment. "It'll give mez and Mark time to renew our personal relationship."
Ayla blinked her eyes and gave a shake of her head to refocus on her tasks at paw. Then after a few more hours of reading ....
"... in this PADD is her educational levels. This one is marked for her Medical needs And up to date medical check ups." Ayla looked up at her former Ship Captain and now her Brother-in-Law. Miracle's Uncle. "Maybe while yooz have a ship to travel, could go and visit her Mousian Grandparents."
Steve looked at the small stack of PADDs in his hand and at Miracle standing there between them off to the side. She was looking around a bit lost, yet with excitement of youth. She had on her travel pack and holding her favorite teddy-bear. "Don't worry, Ayla. She's in good ha.. paws with me. How's Mark doing?"
"It'z hard to tell at times. Hez gets soo focused on the job at paw that Iz have to, sometimes, make him take a break. Itz not so bad now that hez Tactical. Just hez like a lost puppy with all the downtime. Hez complains about how the shifts are so boring, just being on the bridge and standing at the console with an itchy trigger-finger. All that firepower at a mere touch to unleash."
"We Bawdens are not much good at downtimes. We'd rather be in the middle of danger. Facing down some adversary. or facing some challenge that we can sink our teeth into. Don't worry to much about him. You're the only one that could tame such a beast." Steve fidgeted a bit. "I shouldn't be telling you this. But he was a bit more than a handful than our parents could handle and sighed with relief when he went to become a Marine."
Ayla nodded, "Iz just wanted someone Iz could belong to and make feel wanted other than duty." She glanced at Miracle, then back to Steve. "Iz wanted what mez mother had. A family. Mate. Purpose in life with a career outside of home."
Steve looked at Ayla. A tough Mousian Officer from another dimension. "Looks like you've met all of your goals. Which is more than a few people can say..."
Ayla smiled, wiping the moisture that gathered at the corner of her eye. Now it was just Marks and her, like when they met. She sat there, eyes unfocused on the screen before her. Miracle with her Uncle having a good time in safety.
