Mission:
The Emerald Road
Location: Gym / MXO's Office
Gym
Sam had spent the better part of two hours already in the Gym, feeling the need to blow off some steam and she was not the only one it seemed as there were two small groups of others sharing the Gym with her. Aside from managing the teams to accommodate the massive inconvience that Talkar was pushing on everything it seemed that tempers were also being poked at with all the questioning going on. Already two marines had to be relieved of duty temporarily for fighting, it was the first major issue since the whole thing started and the Colonel was made aware of the situation right after Sam had sorted it.
It was a short term stop gap though and Sam could only push training exersizes so far before something real happened.
"Major." Sam heard and she stopped her leg press. "Do you have a minute?"
Sam sighed, a minute yes but a minute of peace she'd have to do without. "Sure." She groaned as she returned to the resting position on the machine before sliding off. "What can I do for you?" She looked up to see two officers in red, tall, big officers infact.
"We have a few additional questions for you if you don't mind, can we take this to your office?"
Sam had to take in that these two were friendlier and social than those Talkar himself had sent. It made them easier to work with but knew that if she didn't then it didn't look good on her, the Colonel or the unit. "Sure, mind if I change first?"
"Of course, we can wait outside your office for you."
"Great." Someones keen She thought as she showered and changed. As expected though the two were waiting for her. "Sorry to keep you, come in, take a seat." She dropped the damp towel on the end of her table, her bag under it. "So, what's this about?"
"We wanted to ask you some follow on questions." One officer spoke. "Also some about Colonel Jason Frost."
"I wouldn't let him hear you calling him that." Sam spoke. "He goes by Jack, call him Jason and see what happens." Sam sat in her chair and sighed. Time to get on with it. "Go on then, fire away." Sam soon came to see that the questions put to her were aimed at the Colonel. From what she could tell they were looking into his ability to lead and if his actions past or present may pose risk to his selection chances.
Sam couldn't see how anything the Colonel did would place him under such a spotlight and the situation on the surface was chaotic at best considering the position they found themselves in. Sam explained in detail what happened, offering reports from the mission not just from herself but platoon leaders and fire team observers that were high on the mountain.
It came as no surprise that the very reports she handed over were already read by the team on board, she offered them in the hopes it would show she was trying to cooperate with them but at the same time she suspected they thought she was trying to do what most marines did and protect their own. "How would you rate the Colonels command style in your opinion?"
"The Colonel leads with experience, probably more friendly than other Colonels I know but not unheard of. He likes to get to know those under his command, doesnt shirk behind them and leads by example. Hes not the sort to ask someone to do that which hes not prepared to do himself. He can be strict and stern when he needs to be but thats how a leader has to be I guess. He gets on well with the command authority on board and until recently hes never really had any issues with the senior staff until Miranda stuck her nose in." Sam spoke as she wondered what was going to happen to Jack.
The questions flowed back and forth for another twenty minutes, each one focusing more and more on Jack. She doubted that they would have enough to remove him especially since that would mean involving the Admiral, but it could be a career killer if Jack was hunting for the full Colonel rank. "Will there be anything else?"
"No Major I think that covers it for now, we will have to report to our superiors obviously and discuss what was said here before anything else happens. Thank you for making the time to speak with us."
Sam sighed as soon as the doors to her office closed, the whole meeting didn't bode well but what really puzzled her was why they were so interested in Jack, if anything they would have acted while they were at Earth and not as they had just left on a mission.
Something wasn't right here.
