Mission:
The Emerald Road
Timeline: Prior to Intercept
Sam was enjoying a much needed bubble filled hot bath. She had without realising spent 16 hours in her office reading reports, updating information from marine quals and certifications and general ad-hoc duties. Time flew and she only came to notice when the Colonel had ordered her away under escort to boot. Hair down and bubbles popping she was enjoying what was perhaps her only real paper book, an old book by most standards but one that her Great Grandfather had given her as a gift. Even though she was on her time off she always made sure that she had her uniform and gear ready to hand in case she was called away.
She always liked to have a degree of organisation in her life, it could be accountable for why she was single because that would involve altering her ways, including someone elses methods into her ordered world and she was not ready for that. Not that she really took much thought into a relationship always seeing her job as the focus of her attention and that few wanted to date a person with the unknowns of a job that put them at the front of what could be a very dangerous situation.
Not that she minded being single and even if she did get lonely she knew she could easily go to the Barracks and enjoy a conversation or two with the marines there to pass the time.
As time passed the reality that sooner or later she would have to exit her bath before she pruned etched its way into her mind, fighting it proved useless because she knew the truth behind the fact. Begrudgingly she exited the comfortable bath and wrapped herself in towels to dry, as the bath drained she dried and did her hair so that it would not be a total mess when it fully dried. The wet towels were tossed into laundry and she pulled on some comfortable clothes before lounging on the sofa before bed.
The mission brief the Colonel handed her she'd read over several times, so far a whole lot of nothing and while that would be well taken by most it would mean she would have to schedule things to keep the razors edge of skill sharp for use. Pondering on the day to come she wondered what was going to happen, the briefing by the Colonel was just that..brief. It seemed that he knew just as little as everyone else including the Admiral which never made anyone comfortable when even the Admiral knows little. The marines she knew would be ready for when the Admiral needed them, they were all skilled, well trained and despite knowing the stakes went into the job eyes open and weapons ready.
Sam rubbed her eyes when she realised she wasn't really staring at much but staring for a while still made the eyes sore from lack of blinking. Time for bed.
Sam walked into the bedroom and flicked on the side lamp then pulled the bed covers to one side, the lack of detail surrounding this mission still nagged at her and despite how much she tried to ignore it, it lingered. Slipping out of her attire and into a nightdress and slipped into bed and pulled the sheets to cover her.
