Ever Ready

Mission: The Emerald Road
Location: Sickbay

Xavier had Sickbay ready, trays with tools, devices and medications stood ready beside each bio bed. Trauma kits by the several lined the shelf on the wall ready to be grabbed and used. Xavier didn't know how bad the injuries would be but he knew they would be chaotic. Looked around at his teams all dressed and ready standing by beds ready to be filled with marines, security and crew alike. This was what they were trained for, a crisis emergency and while everyone knew boarding actions were bloody and deadly endeavours, it was all part of the service when the uniform goes on.

"Ok, just remember the training, keep calm and focus." Easy words to say and Xavier knew it.

He had a team of 8 sent to the airlock, any that came back wounded would be assessed as walking wounded or critical needing beaming to Sickbay. He knew the extra people there would complicate Commander Reign's job but he had his own to do and that was saving lives.

He checked his own station again, medkit, tray, nurse, trauma kit within reach, check.

This was one of those situations every medical student reads about in texts, he recalled reading one medical text about a planetary invasion during the Dominion War resulting in nearly 68% casualties and of them 53% fatalities. Every bed had a 'Ready' button on the console, for when the transporter needed to beam wounded to Sickbay it knew which bed was free and which was not. If none were, then it would beam them to any vacant space available, even the floor if needed.

"Xavier, im going down to the Shuttlebay where theyre going to beam people back and triage. If I get any that require my immediate attention, I'll come back and switch out with another surgeon." Acacias specialty was trauma surgery so this was her moment to shine. "Anything you need me to take with me?"

"What ever you think you will need, just try to leave me with something to work with." A tiny bit of humour, perhaps the only spec of it they would get while the boarding action took place.

Xavier looked around and saw people standing by beds, carts loaded with medical supplies, scanners, readouts, bandages. Even the critical room was staffed and ready to receive casualties and Xavier had little doubt there would be some.

"You don't need that kitchen sink do you?" She joked back lightheartedly as she filled a trauma bag and swung it over her shoulder.

Xavier looked at the clock, any minute now the show would kick off, he just hoped he didn't forget anything in his prep. It was a good idea for Acacia to convert a shuttlebay, while he hoped it wouldn't be needed he silently knew it might, space was not a luxury as it was on the Ascension Class.

"Alright everyone, get ready. It's going to get very busy, very quickly. Keep calm." Xavier spoke as he waited.

Tossing the boss a salute Acacia booked it off to the cargo bay where thr nurses were setting up trauma bays and a proper triage 'funnel'. Green and yellow tagged patients would go to their respective areas with a nurse to manage superficial wounds and monitor vital signs. Red patients triaged as emergent would be seen by her immediately and sent to sickbay or dealt with by her right there. Black....well....she desperately hoped there would be no DOAs.

It was not long before casualties started to appear, a radiation alarm and some fatalities. Losses are always expected on dangerous missions but Xavier couldn't help but wonder just how many would they lose, how many records would he have to seal, permanently. He wondered how Acacia was doing, while splitting the team was a sound choice, its always harder to coordinate the needs of patients in an ever changing medical setting.
