Mission: New Faces and Terror Beyond
Location: Bawden's Quarters

I got off shift earlier than Ayla which to be honest was expected since she was the First Officer that would no doubt be happening alot. Jury was still out on this new CO but once we got underway I knew this was the opportunity he'd get to show us his worth. Since I was first off duty I dropped by day care and picked up my Daughters. Darling little bundles of joy that they were, Miracle darted for me straight away and leapt up, Marcie I picked up and carried. They were both happy to see me and it was that youthful energy, eagerness and innocence that just made the day seem more manageable.

When we got home I put them down to let them run around for a bit while I prepared something to eat for them. "Kids, food!!" I called out and didn't take long for them to sally forth for food.

I'd eat when Ayla got home, or there abouts when she was ready to eat. I was in no rush about it so I kicked my boots off and laid down on the sofa. My want for relaxation came at a price, kids being kids meant messy eaters and Marcie...the little darling thought it would be funny to share her meal with me, after grabbing it from her plate into her hand, walking across the floor, up onto the sofa, then me and offered it. Hmmm yummy. "Daddy is not hungry sweety, why dont you put that in the bin, it's got hair and bits all over it, bad for you?"

Door whooshed open, Ayla walked in, kicking one of Mark's boots under a chair. The other under the couch where Mark lay upon. She picked up Marcie. catching her by surprise, she dropped the glob of food in her hands onto her daddy's chest. She glared at Mark for not watching the kids better as she sat Marcie at the table, cleaned her hands up. "Food stays at the table. And to be eaten."

Marcie nodded solemnly with eyes wide open. She ate a few more bites and swatted the remainder and plate onto the floor with a clatter and gooshy plop.

Miracle watched from her side of the table, wide eyed and glancing between the three of them. Daddy, Marcie, Mother.

Ayla tail wiggled and moved in soft weird geometric shapes behind her. Eyes narrowed letting Mark know she was angry. She took deep breath through her nose.

Ohhh crap, I'm in the dog house, what did I do this time? I sat up and walked to her, dropping off the ball of food into the bin. I made sure the kids were distracted before speaking. "What's wrong?" I asked. Bad day at work? Clash with the Captain? I wondered.

"Iz need to change." Ayla moved off, not bothering to answer his question. She didn't want to explode in front of the children. "We talk in private. After yooz clean up after yooz daughter."

Yup, in trouble. I cleaned up, made sure everything was ok and kids at the table eating. "Keep an eye on Marcie for me ok sweety." I kissed Miracle on the top of her head and ruffled Marcie's hair before walking into the Bedroom. Here goes. "What's wrong?"

Just stepping from the refresher, looking clean and groomed. Smelling of fresh scented soaps and shampoos. Ayla looked at her mate. "Squeakies.... yooz gonna love to hear this." She moved over to her set of drawers, letting the bathrobe fall to the floor. "Our new captain maybe a experienced war vet. But he's also a newly minted Captain coming from the XO slot on another ship. Possibly been given the promotion and command of the Dreadnought as a favor for saving an Admirals life during the Dominion War." She put on her panties and then a simple pull over blouse that hung just a bit past her hips.

I thought about what she said, sure the situation sucked but there was nothing we could do about it. "Hey, I know it looks bad but there is nothing you or I can do about it, Command has appointed him so we are stuck with him. We can just go judging people without really getting to know him, we have to give him a chance." For once the mood of the situation, her anger distracted me from the view. "If he is that polished then he's going to need you, you have the experience of this ship and the crew, you can anticipate his needs."

"Iz hope so." Ayla looked at Mark as she moved over to him and gave him a hug. "Iz don't know how Macleod could do this! Being XO. And being a Family man. Iz worry about the children and it distracts mez at the most inopportune time. Then dealing with problems within the crew between subordinates and a few department chiefs. Then Iz got to make peace with CAG after Iz steamrolled right over him and said a few things that mez temper gotten the better of mez."

I held onto Ayla as she hugged me, deep down it was something I needed. "Don't worry about the kids, we both have this, we can handle them and our jobs together. Besides, the girls need a rolemodel to live up to, can't have them taking after me and joining the marines now can we?" I laughed, the thought of those two joining the marines, using natural talents and turning heads just amused.

Looking up at him, Ayla smiled, "Iz am hardly home to be a good rolemodel, since Iz taken the XO slot. Iz am grumpy. Getting fat from sitting all day." Ayla sighed softly. "It's either Iz exercise and miss out on time with the children or be with the children and miss out on the exercise."

"Why not take them with you, or we could do it together as a family thing?" I replied. "That way we can keep an eye on them, do our thing and you can spend time with them?" I suggested, not sure how she would take to it but worth a shot.

Ayla looked at him, ears gone still. whiskers froze, even her tail came to a stop as she gave thought to what Mark said. "Exercise? Squeeeee... They get up early enough. Which mean to bed earlier for them." She gave him a squeeze/huggle. "Good idea."

She released him and scampered out to were the girls were at. Marcie making colored scribble marks in her coloring book. Miracle helping her out by coloring within the lines on the next page as they lay side by side on the floor.
