Mission: What Stalks The Night
*** Fabrication Lab 9, Engineering level 3. ***
The place had become a frenzy of activity since the ship had departed Earth and it was taking some getting used to seeing the sheer amount of engineering staff on hand. It was not often people got to see the largest class of Starfleet vessel in all its grand majestic glory trail its way out of the system and now they found themselves at warp. With all the reports that Engineering had submitted it gave him and the techs and engineers time to begin replicating replacement storage parts for the cargo, that only James knew about. It was easy to keep things compartmentalised, but to keep people from wondering or guessing was something else.
James was down in the fab labs replicating some parts he knew would be needed for the cargo, due to the quantity involved it needed constant observation but sadly because of what it was, something as simple as a link up was not permitted. Which meant that parts were beamed to a Cargo Bay, then to his location where he alone would do the works.
"Lieutenant, I have the gear your requested, if I could just get your approval here."
I saw a young Ensign holding a padd for him, the gear he brought him though not sensitive was still monitored, stuff like this didn't come cheap and you cant just let this type of thing go roaming without a paper trail to follow. "Thanks, when was it last calibrated?"
"Just prior to bringing it to you, standard procedure now."
Bout time they did that. "Thanks, here you go." James handed back the padd and put the container on the desk. Opening it up was the diagnostic equipment he'd asked for, this would enable him to fine tune the storage settings for maximum efficient storage since the containers, with so many containers within, each one monitored, alarmed and fail safe systems active needing work.
James didn't mind the challenge, what he did mind was the constant checks, inspections, paperwork. That was a time killer but he understood security's need to check.
It took nearly 40 minutes to finish replicating the materials he needed but once they were done I was glad to be out of a room packed with nearly 100 people.
***Main Engineering***
When James arrived at Main Engineering he found no less than 9 PaDD's waiting for him on his desk. He swore to himself that he needed an 'Inbox' and an actual container at that because he was sure that with a ship this size that reports would be coming in far faster than he'd be sending them out. Flicking through them he found that most were updates of systems checks he'd asked be done mostly so that he had a baseline for his workings and then he could look at what improvements he wanted to make. As the parts he required were completed, assembled and beamed to his appointed Cargobay he ticked them off the list. He knew Security would be watching as he worked and that was fine, just as long as they didn't get in the way then he wouldn't have any problems.
As he worked he thought about Kelly and Tiff, the two girls in his life. He was lucky for sure and loved the pair of them, it was an interesting dynamic but one he was happy with and hoped would continue for a while to come yet.
One of the PaDD's contained a list of fabrications needed, things for quarters, rooms, two replacement glass tables, one new sofa, 17 data uplink connections to VIP rooms, 1 relocation adjustment and 4 replicator repair requests. Sending a copy of the lists to separate teams so that between them they could work on completing the works he left it with them, but a mental note to make sure it was done. While he was new on board he didn't want to give over the impression that he would be a push over to work for, he had a job to do, one he took seriously.
This was a new page in his career, he wanted it to be a good one.
