Mission: What Stalks The Night

Amélie smiled as she walked through the corridors, a stack of PADD's in hand. She was happy. It was a good day. Alain had a day off work and she had free time that extended her lunch break, so she was on her way back to their quarters to spend what time she could steal away with her Husband. The down side of his working civilian hours in hospitality meant that he often worked well past after she finished for the day.

She had just stepped out of the turbolift when the explosion happened, the ship, despite it's behemoth size, rocking beneath her feet. Almost instinctively she held the PADD's to her chest and broke into a run, the small heels of her boots pattering the carpeted floor as she hurried the final section of the corridor, keying in her access code and rushing into their quarters.

"Alain?" she called anxiously, hoping he was in their quarters and not near what ever it was that had exploded.

Alain was preparing something to eat when he felt the ship rock. Standing in the kitchen with spatula in one hand and a pan in the other wondering what was going on. Surely a ship this big was safe, it was huge, it had to be teaming with the best Starfleet had to offer in manpower and technology...right?

Then the doors opened, he wasn't expecting anyone but didn't consider that they would only just open like that for one other person. "Amélie?" Alain spoke, still somewhat in shock as to the fast sequence of events that was transpiring. "Shouldn't you be on duty?"

"I was," Amélie explained suddenly. "I was coming back to have lunch with you, then..." She dropped the PADD's to the floor, rushing into him, throwing her arms around his waist. "I was worried for you," she whispered softly.

"Whats going on? What was that shake?" He asked watching the PADD's fall to the floor. All he could do was his best not to touch her with the spatula or the pan he was holding so help his arms open wide to avoid such a thing happening. "I'm ok, I'm ok my love, what's going on?"

"I don't know, I just got out of the turbolift when it happened," Amélie said quickly. "I was coming home to surprise you for lunch and..." She sighed. "I don't know how long I'll have, I'll likely get called into medical at some point to help with basic care if there are injuries..." She reached up, looking into his face, her fingertips brushing his cheek. "I didn't know if you were here or not, I didn't know where the explosion was, I was worried..." she explained softly.

"Day off, I didn't plan on going anywhere." He replied still holding his arms out. "If you want something to eat, get some plates before this gets cold." It was not anything overly special, just something to eat and there was plenty of it to share. "Will need some extra cutlery since I only placed for one too."

"I don't need food," Amélie replied vehemently. "I just needed to know that you're okay..." She looked up at him, meeting his eyes, her own filled with concern. "I just..." she sighed. "I was worried about you is all," she offered lamely.

It was heart warming that she worried, but Alain understood that with space travel came risks and with a ship this big while there was a sense of confidence and safety to it, the understanding that nothing was invulnerable was always present. "I'm fine babe." He spoke trying to be reassuring to her as he looked at her.

Her hands ran down over his chest, fingertips pressing against him gently as she drew in a deep breath. "I love you," she murmured softly before she pulled away from him slightly, drawing a deep breath and trying to compose herself. "I'll check the computer, I have some level of access, it will tell me what's going on."

"I'll serve this while you do." He knew he'd have to put the pan back on to reheat what he was cooking, which was fine since the meal wouldn't spoil if he did. "I didn't think anyone would be foolish enough to attack, this ship is massive."

Keying in her access codes, Amélie brought up the ships systems. "It doesn't look like it was an attack," she said softly. "It looks like one of the hangar bays exploded..." she paused, confusion in her voice. "Maybe it was an attack..." she sighed softly. "There will have been a lot of casualties."

"Shouldn't you be helping somewhere then?" He was fine, safe. Last thing he wanted was to put her duties and position at risk just because she had to see if he was ok. "They might need you."

She nodded slightly, standing up. "I was on my way home to see if you wanted to have lunch when it happened, but I'll go back up to Sickbay. They might need help." She sighed and looked up at him, offering a wan smile. "Well, so much for sneaking away for a quiet lunch with my Husband," she said wryly.

"Well if it makes you feel better, dinner will be at its usual time." Alain spoke trying to give her some measure of something to look forward to. "Making your favorate too, was going to be a surprise but with everything happening now..."

"You're wonderful," she said with a smile, rising up on her toes to kiss him softly. "And I'm going to go back to work. I'll see you tonight?"

"I'll be here babe." Alain spoke after kissing his Wife. He smiled as he began to serve his meal, suitably reheated and still ready to eat.
