Mission: What Stalks The Night
Location: Main Sickbay

Nim sank gratefully into the first seat she could find, a heavy sigh of relief escaping as she rested her head back against the back of the seat, enjoying the feeling of just being off for a few moments.

The medical emergency had been the second in less than twenty four hours. This time a plasma conduit had blown out on deck eleven. There had been five people injured. One with minor injuries, two with moderate to severe injuries and two that she had considered life threatening acute injuries, largely as a result from the scatter of shrapnel in the blast.

She moved her head slightly, her gaze settling on the blood soaked surgical coat that she had just shed and now lay in a puddle on the floor. With another heavy sigh, she leaned back again, closing her eyes once more until the sound of approaching footsteps made her open one weary eye again, taking in the view of the red headed medical officer approaching her in a similar state of disarray.

Forcing herself more upright in her seat, she forced her eyes open enough so she could appear alert and attentive. "How's your patient?" Nim asked softly, knowing that Acacia had taken the patient with more severe injuries. "Is he going to make it?"

"Probably, provided nothing goes wrong with the arterial graft immediately post-op." she offered a shrug and a half smile. "It looked good when I was in there though"

"I'll make sure he has round the clock one on one care," Nim replied, closing her eyes and leaning back in her chair. "Fingers crossed we have no more major disasters, we're going to start running out of beds soon," she quipped with a smirk. "I don't know about you but I would kill for a coffee and a donut, just so long as it's not jelly filled," she offered a wan smile. "Want one while I'm up?" she asked, levering herself out of the seat with a heavy sigh.

"Bite your tongue" Acacia answered, her voice weary. A doughnut sounded heavenly right now. "And yes Id love one. Pick one at random if you wouldn't mind" .

Replicating two cups of coffee and a plate of assorted donuts, Nim set handed the coffee to Acacia and set the plate on the small table before she returned to her own seat, pulling her knees up and and sipping at the coffee, a sigh of contentment escaping her lips as she closed her eyes again. "Gods that is good," she said before she laughed softly. "I'm pretty sure most of the staff from the next shift have already been called in so at least handover is going to be easier, but I'm looking forward to a nice long hot shower and at least a few hours of uninterrupted sleep."

"Go on then. Ive got a few hours of caffeine and sugar fueled care left to give. " she grinned tiredly and bit into one of the doughnuts that was liberally drizzled with chocolate.

Reaching up, Nim pulled the pins from her hair, letting it fall down her back, sighing with relief as she shook her head. "I have another hour or so left on my shift and I need to finish completing treatment notes from my last couple of patients. I want to go and check on Lieutenant Caulkland's wife before I finish for the day. Poor woman was so distraught, I thought we were going to need to sedate her," she said quietly, her voice becoming more solemn and reflective as her thoughts turned, yet again, to the lives that had already been lost, and now with even more hanging in the balance. "I don't know what's going on out there, but I hope this is the last of it."
