Mission: Under A Glassy Surface, Where We Don't Belong...
Location: Ready Room.
Timeline: Current

Will was reading over routine reports as the Dreadnought sped on its way to locate the missing ship they had been tasked to find. He hoped that it would be routine and simple with the chance to use the extensive fighter wing to scout the area instead of risking the much larger ship being seen. He felt it would be a good chance to see the operational launch capability of the ship which in effect was a carrier by most standards.

The gaps in his senior staff however was unfortunate however he was confident that new arrivals would step in with the needed qualifications and experience, while the Dreadnought was not the flagship it was however many other things of import.

=^= Bridge to Captain, sorry to disturb you sir but you have an incoming priority communication from Starfleet Command. =^=

=^= I'll take it here. Thank you. =^=

Will rotated his computer to face him properly and input his authorisation to make the connection. After the logo faded he was looking upon an older gentleman, an Admiral of Asian decent. "Admiral."

"Captain Hood. I am Admiral Shin'ga. There has been a development in your mission perimeters. The vessel you were tasked in locating the Bainbridge has been found. She was attacked by raiders and her long range communications were damaged along with other critical systems. She took refuge in low orbit of a planets polar region to mask her presence. She has now repaired her warp drive and is on her way home for repairs."

"Thats good Admiral, any word on the raiders?" Will asked wondering if any action would be taken.

"The Bainbridge managed to destroy two vessels and damaged another. We will be reviewing the sensor logs to determine if we can find out where they came from and if there is a base that needs to be dealt with."

"I understand. Do you have new orders for me?" Will asked. Considering his original task was now void.

"I do. 3 weeks ago we detected some unusual gravitational shifts emanating from the Gamma Tauri system. We'd like you to take a look, investigate the cause if possible and report back."

"I understand. Are there any factors that I should be aware of, tensions, political, regional?"

"None, the region is otherwise peaceful, traffic is negligible. We are not anticipating any problems but we are interested to find out what is going on."

"I'll get underway immediately Admiral." Will replied. He was not a stranger to orders changing mid mission but he was glad to know the Bainbridge was safe. Nobody liked to see a something familiar in pieces or adrift.

"Very well, Shin'ga out." Then the connection closed leaving Will with new orders and orders to relay to his staff.

Once it was clear that the communication had ended, Bianca stood up from her seat on the bridge and approached the Captain's Ready Room, pressing the chime and entering once she had been summoned.

"Is everything alright Captain?" she asked, a hint of concern in her voice. "Generally when Admirals start calling it's rarely good news to be had.'

"It seems our missing ship has been found. She was attacked by raiders and her long range communications, warp drive and others took a while to repair. Shes heading back to base now. Meanwhile, we have been rerouted to investigate some unusual gravitational readings that have been detected in the Gamma Tauri system." Will explained as he peered up at his First Officer from the computer he was just using.

"Gamma Tauri system?" Bianca questioned curiously. "Interesting. I'll have sciences prepare their department. I imagine we'll want to launch some probes to investigate thoroughly. I assume they didn't give any likely cause for the gravitational readings? From memory it's a fairly quiet system, very little of interest ever happens there.'

"Given the remote position of the system long range readings were all they could get. So they are sending us. I don't expect anything untoward to happen but still, I'd like to be prepared." Will replied.

"I don't think we'll require a lot of preparation, but I'll speak to the senior staff if you wish and let them know of the change in plans. Most everyone was preparing for our last assignment, I don't see much that will need to be changed, outside of Sciences, and perhaps Medical?"

"I'm sure there will be some relief from some of the departments but I don't want them relaxing too much. We don't know the cause of whats going on yet. Have helm set a course, Warp 5." Now that the brief was made and he'd relayed orders, there was no time like the present.

"Of course Captain," Bianca responded with a quick nod. "Anything else you require from me?"

"Not at the moment." Will replied. "Carry on."
