Mission:
New Faces and Terror Beyond
Location: Bridge
Ra sat on the Bridge knowing that in the hours of the morning to come they would arrive at what would be his first test as Captain of the Dreadnought. Though he was optimistic he also knew the value of caution, of looking where one was going instead of rushing. It was however for him a minor failing, sometimes he was overly cautious. The reports that he had read indicated that his ship and crew were ready, all the information that could be had had already been distributed to the relevant chiefs of his departments and supplies were set for transporting to the surface.
He couldn't however shake the feeling that something was missing, something that could have a critical impact on the mission. His own efforts to check long range sector surveillance probes yielded little, mostly due to solar interference of the systems sun in a state of light turbulence. He'd like to think that Starfleet Command would provide a mission to test his ship and crew but a simple humanitarian mission seemed a little too easy for a first assignment.
The lack of Commander Bawden as his First Officer was unfortunate, he was looking forward to seeing the talent and skills that he'd read so much about in her records and reports from Admiral S'iraa. He understood her absence in light of her Husband and hoped he would be able to work with her soon enough. He was also aware of the lack of a Chief Medical Officer, he expected one to accompany him when he joined the ship but the selection had reconsidered at the last minute and there was insufficient time to get a replacement to the ship prior to its departure.
Lt. Patrovski had so far declined the role even though his time on board and his evaluations from the prior Chief made it very clear that Patrovski was a capable and talented individual with a great deal of potential. Efforts by Commander Bawden to offer the role had so far been met with failure. Ra knew that promotion was an offer and could be declined though generally it was not until the rank of Captain where many felt suited to commanding a starship than a desk.
Lunch with his stunning Wife was a welcome distraction that formed part of his job, he loved her caring and considerate nature, even when his duties were an inconvenience to her social status in life. He did however try and accommodate her as much as he could but duties sometimes had to come first. After a while there came time to rest, his eyes became sore and his glasses pinched his nose uncomfortably, he blamed the mountains of reports he had to read for this.
He surrendered the Bridge to Colonel Frost and retired to his quarters where he could better rest himself for what tomorrow had in store for him, hunger also played a factor. Even though his Wife had brought lunch for him to his Ready Room as ime went on he felt the edge rise again reminding him, nagging at him that he was still hungry.
When he entered his quarters he found it empty, his Wife must be out with one of her social functions or gatherings. This did give him time to relax, unwind without anything or one to distract him.
He liked to think that he'd done everything he could, prepared as best he could for tomorrow but the true test would be when they entered orbit, when planning surrendered to action.
