Mission: New Faces and Terror Beyond
Location: Engineering / Planet's Surface

I was standing with my gathered teams in the Cargo Bay ready for transport to the surface, our equipment would head down slightly ahead of us ready to get going the moment our feet were on the ground. Part of me was keen about this since it had been a long while since I was doing something like this beyond the simulators at the Academy. I still had trouble fathoming how I managed to attain a position such as this under an Admiral no less and I had a feeling the new Captain was going to replace me with someone more seasoned than I.

However here I was still as the Chief Engineer so I felt I best make the best of it, prove myself to the new Captain so that he didn't have any reason to remove me. Looking back on it though I have enjoyed the challenge, working on a ship of this size and scale with three warp cores no less was something at the time I was but a Cadet was none existent.

"Ok listen up. Priority is to get the shelters made, storage put up so we can stow materials we brought with us and power generation. Medical teams will handle the hospital once it's up. Keep in mind this is a humanitarian mission so if they need help with power or space, give them a hand." I spoke to the gathered engineers, techs and specialists.

I know you are comfortable working on a starship same goes for myself but we have the training and skill sets needed to help accomplish this mission so lets make sure we do our jobs well because the Captain will be watching." Of that I had little doubt.

"Reports are that it's raining." I spoke having been handed a report. "So get your wet weather gear on, visors and wrist lights. Don't forget that we are here to help but that also includes helping each other, if you see someone struggling report it. If you are feeling ill then see a Doctor, I don't want heroes, don't brave through it because you are no use to me off your feet."

Moments later the signal came through that we had been cleared to go. "Ok, step up by teams." I would be last, I wanted to make sure everyone went and that there were no problems. It wasn't because I was worried or had fears about the mission, but sometimes especially amongst some of the newer additions nerves could kick in and it was reassuring to have the boss there to reassure and instil confidence at the last moment.

Sooner or later it was my turn so I stepped up with the dregs of those that remained and one second we were surrounded by the warm known place we all called home. The next we were ankle deep in mud and rained on.
