520 words; about a 3 minute read
Mission:
Ethics, Morals & The Prime Directive.
Location: Security Office
Timeline: Post Meeting
After being dismissed Mark made his way to the security section of the ship knowing that he had much to do and a finite amount of time to do it in. He already had some people in mind that would function as part of the security details on the escorts that would eventually be used but he still had some gaps in the teams that he would need to urgently fill. As he walked he considered what information to include to the report that he'd have to send this new Captain.
The jury was still out on him, he obviously had something going because he'd made Captain, curious as to why he got command of the Dreadnought and not an Admiral but that was above his grade so didn't dwell on it.
When he walked into the main security office he was greeted by his Deputy. "Everything alright?" Mark asked as he took the offered Padd.
"I've managed to almost fill both detachments for the escorts but I'm missing 3 from 1 team and 2 from the other."
Mark looked over the lists and could see the vacant spots, it was a solid effort though and knew this would take some of the pressure off. "Thanks, I'll look into it. I'd also like to run a diagnostic of all security fields on every deck, brig and hanger."
"Understood, though it will take time. Crew and supplies are still onboarding so testing will have to be run when the opportunity presents itself."
"Yeah, figured. Still, let's get it done as the Captain wants to make sure this ship is ready, so every department has been asked to do it." Mark spoke as he looked around the room at the banks of displays and monitors. "Make sure people take breaks too, won't do us any favours if we run ourselves into the ground trying to get it done."
The Deputy walked off and left Mark to walk to his office where a stack of Padd's awaited him. His shoulders dropped when he saw it because the mood to tackle them vanished. Part of him said it was part of the job and he admitted it was, but he lacked the energy to face it right now. Sitting down he had to deal with the security teams for the escorts and with most of the work done he knew it wouldn't take long.
His mind drifted to his Wife, Ayla. She'd stepped out of the uniform and he had to admit that was more of a change than he expected. It felt strange not seeing her in blue or roaming the Bridge on duty. Still though, he supported her choice and hoped that she was happy especially with their daughter rapidly growing up, it seemed like she grew inches per week, and soon she'd outgrow all her clothing. Shopping though was something both of them enjoyed so there was an upside to the growth spurts.
He wondered what the plans were tonight, with everything that was going on Mark had not really had much spare time to dedicate to his family but thankfully they understood why.
