Mission:
Let That Be Your Last
Location: Sickbay- Orthopedic Surgery bay
The surgical suite was as pristine as Aaron preferred it, the layout was simple and it seemed that the circulating nurse had done her job to perfection. Tools were laid out and neat rows, most likely in the order that he would need them.
They knew him well enough to anticipate his choices in the matter. He took a moment to reflect on the team that he had here, and smile not only at their efficiency but it just how seamlessly they all worked together. By the time he and Acacia were done with this place, this would be of the assignment that everybody wanted. The Dreadnought would be the posting that the Firsties fought over.
With a smug smile on his lips Aaron turned to his next task at hand, despite the irrational pride when he thought of what they were making the Dreadnought into. Then, he flicked his fingers so that a hologram of the intelligence officers shoulder appeared in the corner in breathtaking detail.
"Is Commander Skovik being prepped?"
"Affirmative."
As if in response to his query, the tiny door that admitted patients to the surgical suite opened and Commander skovic in a surgical wrap . It ran around his hips twice and tied in the middle so as to leave him with some modesty but also allow the surgical field to be on, cinched above his waist. The color of the wrap, which changed as it's absorption of ambient bacteria increased or decreased was a pristine shining white. That indicated that it was freshly decontaminated, and that the faint sheen on Skovik's skin was that of the wash that was used to cleanse the body of bacteria. They weren't so far away from the possibility that an infection could arise, but he wasn't willing to forego the surgical scrub.
"Right on time as usual commander " Aaron complimented.
"There is no logic in being late, nor early with a scheduled appointment."
Aaron laughed in response, "You're right of course, and the anxieties that plague a human going through a medical procedure such as this don't bother you in the slightest. "
"I am well versed in your qualifications. Such a simple surgery should not tax you over much."
"Oh, I'll get you back to normal. Make no mistake of that."
"The state of my normal currently is unacceptable. I should like to go back to... what is the human term? Factory default?".
Aaron blinked at him a couple of times before bursting out and laughter, the type of which had him wiping his eyes free of moisture to contain his mirth"God Skovik your timing is just perfection itself. Get on the bed let's get going".
Skovik permitted himself the faintest of upturn to his lips as he stretched his long form out on the operating table. He took some physical comfort in the warmth radiating from the table itself.
Aaron worked quietly but efficiently, knowing that the Vulcan Commander didn't need the same verbal reassurance that other patients would. He clipped a nerve function monitor to his wrist and flicked it on. Aaron was rewarded by two green lights, two yellows and a red. "Your current pain level Commander?"
"A 4 on a 10 scale. " was spoken from above after a moment's thought "It is accompanied by a sharp tingling and loss of sensation in the back of my arm, and my last three fingers. "
"We will recheck the function and sensation once we wake you up, but this is a good place to begin." He placed the mask over Skoviks face and counted back from 10. The Vulcan did not fight the anesthesia and so he quickly fell under its spell.
"Anesthesia activated. Life support measures engaged. ". Vital signs obediently lit up the panel over his head.
With life support activated, the time now was going to be spent in the repair and restoration of the limb to full functionality. That much he could do with ease, despite not having an orthopedic background.
Reaching out an open hand, he was handed a laser scalpel, before he even asked for it. Once it was solidly in his palm he activated it and he smiled at the faint hum of the soft blue while light the tip emitted. He knew his team, and they knew his wishes almost before he could voice them. He met the nurses eyes with a satisfied smirk before setting his attention to the task.
"Initial incision...mark. "
