Much To Be Done

Mission: Let That Be Your Last
Location: Operations Headquarters
Timeline: Minor Backpost

Repairs were moving along steadily, and it was reassuring to see, or at least read, that normalcy was gradually being restored. While his team had suffered only a few casualties, the extensive damage to the ship and the aftermath of the battle created a daunting task that would require the collective effort of the entire crew. The arrival of an Admiral on board heightened the atmosphere, eliciting a mix of anticipation and anxiety among the crew. Everyone had heard tales of Admirals who demanded perfection, insisting that everything be in its proper place and functioning flawlessly, with any deviation met with disapproval. He caught snippets of conversation about the Admiral inspecting the ship personally.

"He's massive, and a Caitian too," one officer remarked.

"The last Admiral I saw was at my graduation," another chimed in.

"I just hope he’s not like the usual Admirals. They can be tough to deal with."

"Come on, it doesn’t matter if an Admiral is here; we still have a lot of work ahead of us," Cassian interjected, steering the conversation back to the task at hand. He was well aware of how rumors and speculation could influence morale, for better or worse.

Not long after, a figure hurried through the main entrance, his brisk pace drawing attention. "Uh, Sir," Cassian said, glancing at the man's collar. "Commander, how can we assist you?"

"Ferrand Beaulieu, I'm the CAG," he replied, his urgency evident as he made his way to Operations. After narrowly escaping death in the cold void of space due to a fighter mishap, and facing a stern reprimand from Victoria and the Doctor, he was eager to avoid any further trouble. "I need to discuss some material requisitions and power allocations." He slowed his pace, stopping just a few steps away.

"I can assist with that," Massy responded, stepping closer. "Right this way." He had anticipated a visit from either the Chief Engineer or the CAG concerning replacement parts or repairs, and it seemed the CAG had taken the initiative. As he led Ferrand to his office, he gestured toward an empty chair before settling into his own. He took a moment to clear a space on the desk cluttered with control surfaces. "You mentioned requisitions. How can I help you?"

"Several of our fighter and auxiliary crafts were lost during the attack, including my own. I'm eager to explore what steps I can take to initiate the manufacturing of parts for repairs and rebuilds." Ferrand believed that being straightforward and direct was essential for achieving results, especially with rumors circulating about the Admiral; he wanted to ensure he wasn't seen as lagging in his department's preparations.

"I appreciate your visit, but as you know, the ship has suffered extensive damage across all sections, not to mention the internal systems," Cassian responded after taking a moment to collect his thoughts.

"I'm not trying to prioritize the wing over the ship repairs. I have ground crews and technicians ready to handle most of the heavy lifting. Engineering will need to get involved, but that's a discussion for later. Right now, I just need power allocations for part replication from Engineering so my ground crews can get to work." Ferrand hoped that by shifting his team's focus to something productive, it might help lift their spirits after the recent events.

Cassian looked at his read outs having input some information while listening to the CAG talk, while the results he was reading were probably not as glowing as the CAG might like he was sure something was better than nothing. "I could probably make some allocations available for part replication, but I doubt it will be much at least initially and I doubt it will be steady. You might be able to at least start on some of the spaceframe components, maybe salvage parts from damaged craft, cannibalize what you can in the interim."

"I've got teams already stripping components from decomissioned fighters and the remains for salvage." Ferrand spoke up, it was something at least, a move to the right direction for sure.

"How are your workshops, storage lockers, maintenance sections?" Admittedly Cassian had not really paid a great deal of attention himself to it as he was focused on the hull of the ship as a whole.

"Some took damage, sections of the hanger floor itself will need some work but its not like we are airborne anyway right now. Flight lifts and maintenance frames are a little beat up." Ferrand thought briefly. "Our munitions storages are intact thankfully but we did lose a lot of mobile and handheld equipment during the attack."

"I can look into getting some replacement equipment to assist. It might take a few hours, though." Cassian said, aiming to be helpful while also considering his own resource commitments. "If you're okay with it, I'd like to send a team down to perform some assessments. Having scans and documentation will give me more leverage to provide assistance where possible."

"Absolutely, if you think that would be beneficial, that would be fantastic. I can utilize two other hangars, but relocating operational crafts is tricky if I can't clear out the damaged or inoperable ones," Ferrand replied.

"I'll dispatch a team within the next 30 minutes to an hour. They can conduct the review and report back. I should have a clearer idea of how I can assist shortly after that," Cassian assured him. He was eager to help but needed to follow his own protocols first.

"Thanks, I won't take up any more of your time. We both have a lot on our plates," Ferrand said. Progress was steady, plans were forming, and all he needed to do now was let the process unfold. He trusted his crews to manage the minor issues, but at least there was a plan in motion for addressing the more significant damage.
