Mission:
New Faces and Terror Beyond
Location: Planetside Base Camp
Civil unrest in other towns began to reach the ears of Marines. The Officer in Charge that over saw the Marines, replacing Major Snyder order her to take two Squads to check into this matter.
As the nearby settlements were recovering from the quakes and torrential rains with the help the Dreadnoughts Engineers and patrols of Marines restoring civil order within the nearby settlements.
It was time to check up on the other Settlements. Specially the big one that was located near a huge field that had shown signs of Heavy ship usage. It time to head on over show a presence to help the local established law enforcement officers some support.
SSG Winters moved through the two Squads, checking on gear awaiting the shuttle transports to show up.
Zan had just finished offloading the supplies required by Engineering to upgrade the hospital, five round trips of 4 shuttles loaded with underslung storage containers filled to the brim with supplies. By the time everything was uncoupled new orders came in.....taxi duty. "Great....."
Zan landed the shuttles with two others near the marine command post and waited for his 'fare' to arrive.
From the sheltering vegetation that kept rain down to a minimum, Two lines of fully loaded Marines moved out in double time and loaded into the waiting shuttles. Amanda made her way to the front of the shuttle and much to her surprise, there sat Zan. A smile warmed her cold professional look. "Hi Lieutenant. Once your done with dropping us Marines off. We'll be needing air support. It seams that one of the bigger settlement is rioting and need ground troops to help restore peace." She handed over the pad that contained coordinates of where the Marines need to go.
"I can give you phasers only, this is a heavy transport shuttle not a combat vessel." Zan spoke smiling as he was glad to see her. "Should get you there in 6 minutes."
"Much appreciated." Amanda took her place in the shuttle and grabbed hold of the safety strap for the flight as it was standing room only with all the gear they had with them. "We're ready for take off."
Destination in hand Zan lifted off and headed to the LZ, it was nice to see Amanda if only briefly and only duty based. 6 minutes didn't last long and the LZ was displayed on his displays. "20 seconds." Zan planned to drop, offload and up before the door had time to finish cycling open and closed.
"Acknowledged," Amanda responded and then yelled "Look sharp and by the books, Marines..." By the time she finished yelling, the back ramp opened to the shuttle, "... Go! go! Secure the LZ!" Amidst of pounding feet in the rush to get off as quickly as possible. "Cyas on the flip side!" Her fading voice as she yelled back to Zan.
"Just come back to be seen." Zan spoke quietly to himself as he closed the doors and lifted off again.
Amanda moved with the group of Marines as they spread out to form the perimeter to give additional cover for the rest of the platoon. She took the time to look over the situation of prefab buildings and a few warehouses surrounding huge open field. Few of the building made from native trees shown fire damage from the civil unrest.
Using the shuttle as a limited fire support wasn't a bad idea, shields were up, sensors to maximum and he even turned on all the external lights making sure to not light up the marines under him. If anything it would blind anyone looking and light up threats for the marines to engage.
Once the Marines had disembarked and shuttles were gone, SST Winters and her marines formed up and moved into the Settlement in an orderly fashion. The platoon moved ready for battle but only fearful stares met their gaze as moved past. It seamed that arrival of the Marine put a stop to the civil unrest in this sector. They moved to what appeared to be Settlements Main Building where it was governed from.
The crowd were yelling and throwing what ever was handy at it. Some of the windows were broken and barricaded from the inside to prevent anything flammable to get inside.
Soon their presence was noticed slowly at first as those on the fringe noticed the Marines approaching, blocking escape. There were several roads into the open ground before the Settlement Government building. Just the road the Marines were on.
Zan flies his shuttle over the location, lights on and sensors running, all of which was relayed in real time to Winters.
