Mission:
New Faces and Terror Beyond
Location: Sickbay
BJ left Frost's office at a brisk walk down the corridor and to the turbolift. She was surprised that the Marine Colonel had even mentioned that Xavier had turned down a promotion and wondered if he had found out about her and the Doctor. She shook her head, ruling it as impossible even with the rumor mill of some ships.
Xavier had an extra spring in his step that even other Doctors were curious about but they were happy for him, he seemed more alive, energetic and outgoing than usual. Straight away as soon as he walked in he was handed a PADD, on it was medical file and details of his first patient.
Once the turbolift dropped her off, BJ headed down the corridor before she entered Medical. "Doctor Patrovski?" she asked a passing nurse and was directed at a biobed where the handsome Doctor seemed to be patching up a knee on a young female. She waited for him to be done and when the woman had walked out, she cleared her throat.
"Oh, hey." Xavier spoke with a smile, though obvious he was still slightly nervous even after what happened the night before. "Right this way." He knew why she was there. Her physical.
"Doctor Patrovski," she returned the smile and moved up beside of him. "I'm happy to report no stiffness after last night's...workout. I just spoke with Colonel Frost and he said I have to get cleared before I can go planetside."
"Sure, lets go into room 3." Xavier grabbed a kit and secured the door. In the room was a screen, a bed, a row of monitors that he turned on and placed scanners on a table top nearby. "If you could just remove your uniform and lay on the bed we will get started."
"No dinner or drinks first?" BJ asked as she arched an eyebrow before she started to remove her uniform jacket. "I see how it is."
"I can always get more sauce?" Xavier joked. "Actually, about that." It became clear he was nervous about bringing it up. "I um, I'm unsure of what that meant. Are you interested in me or was it a spur of the moment kind of do and forget thing?" Something his friends often bragged about between the men. '
"Aren't you an eager beaver?" she asked as she removed her top, then sat on the bed to remove her boots. "Let's just say I don't do casual, Xav. I had hoped that we could keep things professional while on the job, though. Don't push where there's no resistance and things will work out the way they should."
Wow ok. He wished he hadn't if he was going to get a slap on the wrist like that. "I see." His voice more withdrawn now. He connected the sensors to the various devices making sure they were set and calibrated to Human signatures.
BJ heard the tone and regretted her words. "I didn't mean it like that, Xav," she said. "I almost have a split personality between being on duty and off duty. You've just encountered me on duty, so take what I said with a grain of salt." She stood and removed her pants, then lay back on the biobed wearing just place lace undergarments.
Xavier nodded but remained silent, she wanted professional, got it. He placed the sensors on her body at the required place and straight away readings could be heard. He drew a blood sample for baseline comparison and testing. He scanned her leg letting the image display on screen. "Your leg has healed nicely, blood pressure is normal." The device testing her blood chirped with its results. "Blood is fine, white cell count is normal, oxygenation is constant, Iron is a little low but within norms. Weight 132lbs"
She sighed at his clinical, detached exam. "Xav, look," she said. "If we're in private while on duty, let's wave the professional aspect, okay? I apologize and I don't do that often so you know I mean it."
Xavier smiled. "All too easy." He smiled. "You are in my realm now." He kissed her hand. "Relax, I know what you meant, I was just....unsure is all. I didn't want things to become awkward between us."
"You little sneak," BJ accused him. "I'll remember that, Xav. Trust me on that one. As for everything else, I wouldn't put us getting to know each other out of the nearest airlock...or a few other things."
Xavier smiled. Everything was coming back fine while he chuckled, pleased with himself. "Everything is looking good, tests are fine, everything is within norms. Unless you have anything to tell me as to why I shouldn't clear you for duty?" He asked taking all the devices off her frame.
She glanced around the room and back up to him, then gave him a slow smile. "I don't see why you shouldn't clear me," she said, wondering if he had read her chart and see all the damage she had done to herself on mission after mission.
"You can get dressed now." Xavier said giving her a once over in her underwear and smiled. He entered his notes into the database and wrote up her clearances into a PADD. "I'll leave this on the end of the bed, it's your clearances for the Colonel."
Thanks," BJ said as she came to her feet and began to get dressed. "Would care you to meet me after shift for a tour of the ship? I had to ask the computer for directions twice today already."
"Sure, I'd love to." Xavier spoke in reply. "Shall I find you or you come to me?" He asked because he would probably stay in Sickbay until she was ready.
"It'd probably be best if you came to me," she said as she pulled her boots and uniform jacket on. "I'd be wandering around the ship for days trying to find you."
He chuckled. "Fair enough." He answered standing next to the door holding her PADD out to her. "Ill contact you when I leave."
BJ took the PADD and smiled. "Hopefully, I won't be on the planet, but if I'm not, I'll just be a combadge away. See you later, Xav."
With a smile Xavier opened the door and let her leave. "Till later."
With a final smile, she headed out of sickbay for a meeting in Security to put together a team that she would be happy with. Adjusting on the go was something she was used to, but just once, she'd be happy if she had more time.
