Mission:
New Faces and Terror Beyond
Location: Security
BJ finished setting up her office which amounted to putting a Mek'leth on a plaque behind her desk and a transparent aluminum mug with a crest on it and the initials BJ on her desk. She pulled up the terminal and began to look at the Security and Tactical personnel before she decided that she needed to pay a visit to the Chief of Tactical.
She pulled his personnel file up and groaned when she saw that he had been a Marine and hoped that he wouldn't have the proverbial chip on his shoulder that all Marines seemed to enjoy throwing at everyone. She made herself a cup of Raktajino and filled her mug, then headed for the CTac's office.
There, she pressed the chime and waited.
I needed to do something, couldn't stay cooped up at home all the time and the work was only mounting up. I decided on light work, something to distract from recent events. I wasn't back on duty yet but I was the sort of guy that didn't like to keep things waiting just for me to get back, especially now of all times. Ayla would probably have a fit no doubt but her work was probably mounting up the same as mine.
When I heard the door chime I half expected Ayla to charge in and give me the 3rd degree. "Come."
BJ tugged her uniform jacket down straight with one hand and entered the office. She looked around to see what kind of decorations the man had seen fit to put there to make a determination what kind of person he was before she turned her attention to him.
"Commander Bawden? I'm Lieutenant Commander Reign, the new Chief of Security," she said as she stepped forward.
"Ah, Commander. Welcome to the Dreadnought. Sorry it's taken till now to meet you I've had....family issues to contend with." I put my hand out towards her to shake. "How are you finding our little ship?"
BJ gave a laugh as she transferred her mug to her left hand and gave his hand a firm shake before she released it. "It's not so little, Commander," she said. "But I've been finding my way around with a bit of help. What can you tell me about her offensive and defensive capabilities?"
"She's the most heavily armed ship in the fleet, 26 Type XII Phaser arrays dotted all over the ship, 12 turrets since it would be useless to have static launchers on this. 30 cm of ablative armour all over. We have enough power generators to feed the shields for a heavy battle if required." I rattled off the other basics of the ship's abilities. "She won't evade much but she can take more than a punch when it's thrown."
She nodded as the Commander filled her in on what the Dreadnought was capable of before she took a sip of her Klingon coffee. "Seeing how the Tactical domain is your area, Commander, what areas do you feel overlap with Security and how do you propose we work together?"
"Where do they overlap, in my eyes they don't. I defend the ship externally. If we get boarded that I feel is where you step up. Feel free to tap Colonel Frost on the shoulder too, he enjoys a good boarding action." I answered. "As for working together, I can help you get familiar with the ships systems, force fields, access areas, key locations and the like if you wanted."
"I'd appreciate that, Commander," BJ said as she took another drink of Raktajino. "I arrived here in a bit of a mess and Doctor Patrovski put me on restriction for the first twenty-four hours. Now I'm cleared for duty and ready for action."
"I'd heard about that." I replied. "Interesting entrance to be sure. Have you met the Captain and Colonel yet?" I asked not sure what stage of her introductions she had reached.
"I have and they informed me about the situation on the planet," she said. "It's a shame the locals decided to rise up when they did. From what I heard, it was unexpected and we're hard pressed to get everyone out safely."
"I'm still reading the reports myself. My Wife will no doubt kill me if she found out I was doing even some light reading for work." I chuckled, she cared for me I knew but was still funny at times.
"I highly doubt that being shown around the Security and Tactical areas of the ship counts as work," BJ commented. "May I ask what happened to you, Sir?"
A slight pause. "My second daughter passed away, stress and a brain aneurysm followed." I replied. "Dr Patrovski has my attending Doctor too."
"I'm terribly sorry to hear that," she said earnestly. "You have my deepest condolences, Commander. Would you like to put off the tour until another time?"
"How about tomorrow?" At least then I could run it past the Mrs, put her mind at ease and its technically not work. It would also be showing my replacement around, so ships security and functions need her up to speed.
"Until then, Commander," BJ said before she turned and headed out.
"Until then Commander." I stood as she made to leave. Now to get back home before the Mrs comes hunting for me.
