This Isn't Right!!!!

578 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: New Faces and Terror Beyond
Location: Capta

Jack heard the order from the Captain and mild surprise washed over him at the order. He knew this had something to do with the Resolute arriving but there were principles, who was going to answer for the losses taken especially amongst his marines. Having given orders to gather all the information the Captain asked for Jack walked to the Ready Room door and chimed it.

"Come." Ra spoke as he opened a small container to fetch another set of glasses and put the broken ones within. Once on he saw Colonel Frost. "Yes Colonel?"

"We can't leave." Jack spoke.

Ra turned to face the Colonel who clearly seemed unhappy about the developments. "And I don't want to leave but I have been ordered."

"To hell with orders, we went down there to help and they cut us off at the wrist. Several of my men are dead and now we are told to just up and leave." Jack spoke pacing the Captain's office.

"I know." Ra spoke rubbing his brow. "But when I'm given a priority order I am compelled to obey it."

"But our people are dead!!!." Jack slammed the desk hard. "Does that mean nothing?"

Ra knew the Colonel to be a passionate man, he'd served with this ship for many years and bonded with many marines under his command so let the outburst slide. "Colonel, what we have stumbled upon is something Intelligence has been working on, Captain Gregs didn't even tell me anything beyond who the operation belonged to. Those lives lost today mean something, at the very least to me if not Starfleet Intelligence."

"We can't leave until someone is held accountable." Jack marked.

"And what do you propose I do Colonel in the 14 minutes before the Resolute gets here?" Ra spoke frustrated at the Colonel's insistence.

"Let me take a team down, I'll round up the....." Jack started but the Captain cut him off.

"So we are in the business of just picking random people in the hope of gathering the ones who started it all in the first place?" Ra spoke.

"If Admiral S'iraa was here he wouldn't leave until some justice had been dealt." Jack barked.

"But I am not Admiral S'iraa, I'm Captain Havrelli and this isn't the Admiral's ship it's mine and need I remind you that Admiral's have far more leeway in what they do than I." Ra spoke up. "I understand you want justice Colonel, I do also and this was not how I expected my first mission to reveal itself, but it has and now we have to move on, not because we want to but because we have to."

Jack knew the Captain was right, hated him for it but knew it was true. This was one of those situations that was out of anyone's control but that didn't mean he had to like it. "This isn't right."

"It's not I agree but its what is and we have little choice but to accept it." Ra answered in a calm voice. "I'm sorry Colonel but it's out of my hands."

Jack stormed out dismissed or not. This wasnt right but the Captain was right. He'd have to accept it.

Ra leaned back in his chair. He read the Colonel was passionate and now he knew to what extent. He couldn't blame him for how he reacted as the losses were mostly his own men but he was right, this whole situation wasn't right.
