Mission: New Faces and Terror Beyond
Location: Zan's Quarters

Amanda waited till Mark left Zan's Quarters. She quietly entered and sat on one of his cargo crates he was filling up. She was dressed in her fatigues. Rumpled from maneuvers. Hair in a bun that was fast unraveling with wisps of hair coming free.

She watched him for a bit looking for that one last thing that always eludes a person.

Zan had his back to Amanda while he was packing. Not expecting that someone would come in at the exact same time someone was leaving. When he turned to pack a tunic is when he noticed he was not alone. Who it was however surprised him. "Amanda." He popped the tunic on to the top of the crate. "I'm surprised to see you."

"When were you coming to say good-bye?" Amanda spoke softly, giving him a soft teasing smile. She looking around and then directly at him. "More paperwork than I'd like. Just got off a simulated 'Search & destroy mission' on the holodeck." She watched him intently.

"You probably heard what happened, I know how proud you are of your position, your image. I felt that I was someone you probably didn't want to see after what happened." Zan perched himself on the edge of the desk. "The Admiral didn't sign off on my resignation, this Captain Havrelli wants to speak to me before anything happens."

Amanda snorted softly, "Sheesh, I broke all sorts of Marine rules and regulation with our foray onto that planet. Do you think I'm gonna let what other think dictate my heart? Only person who can do that is you by doing something really stupid. I wish I could've been more available, but somethings even I can't get out of." She looked thoughtful, "So you've made up your mind to go or stay? Since we ain't married. I've no choice but to stay here or play catch up by requesting a transfer to where ever you decide to end up at. See what he has to say."

"That's the plan, see what this new Captain has to say. Might as well hear him out." He came to a stop at the window, through it he could see the Starbase and the Illustrious nearby.

Amanda came up behind him and hugged him as she rested her chin on his shoulders. "I'm going to miss you if you leave. And just for the hell of it, maybe sic a few of the boy on ya." She looked out the viewport with him. "Oh look! New fighters are being transferred aboard!" She pointed them out in case he missed it.

The new fighters with their pilots flew in perfect formations with a shuttle riding in the pocket of the 'V' formation.

"Be kinda shameful not to greet the new pilots." Amanda spoke softly.

He was milling through his mind that she said to 'play catch up' which told him that she'd go with him possibly. "Amanda, with things how they are, I don't know much about what my future holds. You have been the rock that keeps me stable, the piller I hold onto for strength. That said though I need to know where this is going?" Zan didn't want to be bold about it, or force it but they had been dating for a while but skirted around the questions like this often.

"All you got to do is ask," Amanda spoke softly, "if you want me to be with you. I love being with you. You're.. unique and a gentleman where most pilot or Marines it would be either drinking and a quick tumble. You put up with my weirdness to get to know me as a friend and a lover."

"Unique, yeah I sometimes look in the mirror and think exactly that, a unique pain in the butt." Zan joked. "I just.....I want us to be a couple, a proper couple. I know you have your job, your image to protect and I'm fine with that, but I just want us to have that...relationship feel to what we have, not just stealing moments when we can." He was hoping that made sense, he wanted a relationship, not the casual hookup sex type thing, which even that was not what they had but some could look at it that way and he wanted away with that.

"I'm reaching the age where if I do stay in the corps, It'll be more into the Logistics arena. So instead of going to the action, I let it come to me." Amanda spoke softly as she still leaned against him and hugged him. "You want to make official? then yes." Amanda let him go. "Where's my diamond engagement ring?" She teased him.

"Strange you should mention that." Zan walked to the container that he'd packed earlier and pulled a small red velvet box. "I got this not long ago, finished it more like." He opened it. Inside was a diamond ring, the stone itself was ideal for someone in her role, not too big but enough to fulfil the symbol of its meaning. "I had it made from a part of my destroyed fighter. Seemed....more intimate that way." The stone mounted upon a ring of highly polished metal. While not gold or white gold as traditionally done, he wanted a different approach, his own touch to it.

He dropped to one knee, his face wrought with emotion as he tried to get the words in order. "Amanda, will you do me the honour of becoming my wife?"

Amanda smiled widely, "Yes!" She stood there looking at him with a softening smile.

Zan took the ring out of the box and with as much a gentle touch he could muster, and some hope it was the right size, he slid the ring onto her finger. "Thank you." He stood up again. "I know you may have to take it off when at work, comes with what you do I guess." He smiled, overjoyed inside but edged with the unknown of what his own future had in store.

Amanda admired the ring, then hugged him. "Let me get my few things from the quarters here so that you can get them cleared with ship's quartermaster. Want to wait till you have settled into your new assignment before I join you? Or what? I've still paperwork to be processed though to get married."

"I'm expecting this new CO to contact me because the Admiral didn't action my situation. Can't say I blame him on it but lets see what happens tomorrow and plan when we have the information we need ok?" Zan spoke while she looked at the ring hoping she liked it.

She loved the ring. It was more personal than the usual diamond engagement ring. She hugged him tightly as she listened to Zan. "I will treasure this always, my love." She spoke softly with warmth. "You're a valued member of this crew. Admiral S'riaa knows that. We all have set backs, get stomped on by others. It's how we learn and grow. See what he has to say before making any solid decisions that will effect our lives."

She smiled softly at her flyboy she held in a hug. She looked at the packed luggage of Zan's. She hoped he knew what he was doing.
