Mission:
New Faces and Terror Beyond
Location: Sickbay
Captain Havrelli was touring the small parts of the ship for the moment opting to leave the larger sections when time was more permitting of the effort. When he was handed the information about the ship he noted that the Chief Medical Officer position was vacant, having read the assistants profile he was more than qualified and suitable for the role yet records didn't indicate any presence of an interest in the role.
Ra needed a full team, he'd take preference to the moves all being internal because he didn't want to be seen as putting his own people in place, his own people being those from outside the ship like he was himself.
SickBay
Xavier was looking over spour cultures in the hermetically sealed room in Sickbay used for a more in-depth and potentially dangerous substance examination. The cultures he was examining were not harmful but they could cause irritation to the eyes and nose if contact was made and with so many crew on board, an outbreak was to be avoided. Due to the nature of the work involved in that room it had an all window wall, just in case there was an emergency where small waist high walls might obscure a fallen officer.
"I am here to see Doctor...Patravski." Ra asked a Nurse that had come to greet him.
"Dr Patrovski." She corrected. "He's in the chamber." She pointed the way which was clear to see.
Xavier noticed the new Captain standing off to one side.
"Is there a problem Captain?" Xavier asked from within his protective suit.
"No problem Doctor." Ra replied. "May I ask what you are doing?"
"A spore growth study." Xavier spoke standing away from the table in case he knocked anything with his elbow. "It's a species of plant we came across from the last mission when we rescued Admiral S'iraa. A few marines fell ill but were treated. Treatment was difficult because of the self pollination rate, I am studying the rates of pollination and decay of outer shells."
"I see." Ra spoke. Plantlife was never his thing. "I would like to speak to you about the vacant Chief Medical Officer's position."
This again? "I see." He paused to make sure the study was safe before heading to the decontamination room. Xavier always hated those suits, stuffy, sometimes difficult to work in, always hamper vision in some way or another so when he took it off there was that relief. When the cycle was completed he stepped through the door once again in his uniform.
"I realise I am new on board but one of the key points I sought to address promptly was the vacancy of Chief Medical Officer and CAG." Ra explained as the two officers stood to one side.
"Captain, to be honest I really have no interest in the Chief Medical Officers position. I'm happy doing what I am, as for where...well that's still in the air at the moment." Xavier tried to be nice about it but felt that his tone might have added a slight hard edge to it.
"I see." Ra spoke, this was something he was not aware off, the Chief Medical Officer gone and the Assistant may be leaving the ship soon too. "May I ask to your reasoning?"
Xavier explained the long history he had treating the Admiral, now the Admiral was gone. Over the years of his service on board he has seen friends come and go both advancing to new postings of having precious life cut short. He explained about his altercation with Commander Bawden, the forced promotion that he declined and the notification that he was searching his options for reassignment. He left out the incident with the CAG, all he heard was rumour and so was not his place to pass that on. "She means well Captain but yeah.....my guess is her elevation to First Officer was a bit of a shock to her and it hadn't fully settled when it happened."
Ra looked thoughtful, he'd have to speak to the Commander about this.
"Sorry Captain but I just don't think the role is for me. I'll of course continue to do my duties here in Sickbay until I know what I wish to do with my career." Xavier spoke knowing he'd sunk the Captain's hopes at plugging holes in the senior staff.
"That is quiet alright Doctor, better I know afterall. I leave you to your tasks." Ra turned and walked out, not exactly how he planned for that to go, he'd have to speak to Starfleet Medical about getting a new Chief Medical Officer on board. Which meant candidate review and selections.
Xavier felt slightly sorry for the Captain, he just wanted all his ducks in a row and he had to be one that wouldn't sit straight. It was not because he didn't want to help out the Captain, but his career came first and while he would continue to do his best as a Doctor he wondered if someplace else would suit him.
