Mission:
Unknown Life, Unknown Dangers
Location: MCO's Office
They say 'Ignorance is bliss' and with Jack unaware of the developments on the nacelle he was indeed blissful. He was enjoying dinner in his office as he looked over some reports from Earth, some were routine procedure updates from command, others were messages from friends, one....from his Father. Jack may have followed in his fathers footsteps and joined the marines but that's where the ties ended. Raised mostly by his Mother in light of the absence of the other Jack while respected his Father, hated him too for what he did to her.
Still, why now would the 'Good' General want to speak to him now? After so many years had passed. Maj. Gen Alan Frost, Commanding Officer, 27th Mobile Inf Division, at least that was his title last time the two spoke.
"Computer, open a channel to my father, position, rank and title unknown. Search secure database for contact information." Jack heaved a sigh. "What does he want now?"
The computer chirped and a connection was made. A greying man still appearing in his prime physically, years of service honed the General's mind to a razors edge. "Jack, good of you to call."
"Dad." Jack greeted though he was clearly unhappy about it. "What can I do for you?"
"Is it going to be like that Son?" Alan spoke with a sigh.
"We don't speak for years, how else did you expect it to be?" Jack replied with a bewildered look on his face.
Alan sighed rubbing his brow, he expected this, he knew who the blame rested with but Jack was not helping. "I see."
"Can we just get on with this, I have things to do." Jack spoke.
Seeing that Jack was not going to spare him even an inch Alan got right to it. "I wanted to let you know that a position is opening in the 27th Brig HQ. Colonel Hugh is retiring, candidates are being put together, I wanted to let you know in case you wanted a change of scenery."
"Thanks but I'm happy where I am." Jack replied. He didn't want stars, he didn't want a desk which considering what he did now contradicted his desires. He wanted to do the job but also be out there doing it, not like his father from behind the lines but up there with the men, in the dirt.
"You can't be serious Jack, you have been on that ship for over 10 years and what has it seen you? Colonel and a position change." Alan spoke now he had the confused look.
"It suits me, I like it here. I'm happy doing what I do and the people around me. You see unlike you I put others first, I know who my friends are, I know who my family is, pity you can not say the same." Jack grew angry, this man was questioning his choices, a man who had not spoken in years, always away from home and now feels he's entitled to question choices made. "Thanks for the offer but no thanks."
Jack closed the link, seething over the nerve of his father questioning the choices that made up Jack's life. Jack had to make hard calls in his life as any marine would do but that didn't his father could do what he did.
Now he needed to unwind, remembering his friendly chats and interaction with Contantine he wondered if she was up for a meet.
