Please Sir, Can I?

Mission: Unknown Life, Unknown Dangers
Location: Hanger Bay

Everything checked out on his fighter, Zan liked to do his own checks regularly to make sure that his craft was in peak operating condition. 'Look after the hardware and the hardware will look after you.' That was the saying Zan went by when it came to his equipment. It was a little freaky when what appeared to be a dead ship suddenly came alive, even more so when the away team leapt out the viewport into open space.

"Lt. Luthar Sir."

Zan turned to see a happy go chap young man standing smartly at attention. "Yes."

"I'm Ensign Steed, Jason Steed."

"Lt. Zan Luthar, but most just call me CAG." Zan questioned himself if he was behind the times, how could he miss a new pilot. "What can I do for you Ensign?"

"I'd like to train to be a fighter pilot."

"Really, what do you do now?" Zan asked wondering what has brought this turn of career.

"I'm part of Helm department currently but I'd like to be a pilot."

"You are no doubt aware that you need to attend Flight Academy, pass that and then get certified on the various craft. Only then can you be deployed as an active pilot." Zan explained knowing full well what had to be done since he himself had to do it. "Why do you want to be a pilot anyway, life can be pretty short."

"My Father was a pilot during the Dominion War, he didn't come back. My brother tried to be a pilot but failed the final exam."

"Well I cant just slap you into a fighter without undergoing proper training, if you are serious about it I can get the ball rolling but you should probably speak to the First Officer since she handles personnel. You would have to wait until we return to Earth so that you can disembark the ship and attend the academy if you are accepted." Zan wanted to make sure he was covering his ass especially since the man worked in another department.

"Yes Sir, thank you."

Zan watched the man leave and himself returned to his office. Wondered if he would actually speak to the First Officer or leave it at that following the information that he'd have to attend the Academy as piloting a massive starship like the Dreadnought was nothing alike to that of a single seat fighter craft. Still the eagerness of the man was pleasing, it reminded Zan of himself when he was younger and just got his wings.

"Claire, can you verify the injector assembly operations for me, when I was out there the craft felt a little sluggish at low speeds." Xan asked.

"Jimmy, can you run a diagnostic on the thrusters, I'd like to try and squeeze a little more out of them if I can but I want to see how much leeway I have to work with." He asked another of the ground crew.

"Si, when you have finished eying up the female pilots, can you pull the sensor readings from the last mission. I want to look over them again to make sure I didn't miss anything?" Zan had a feeling, that nagging feeling that something had gone unseen, missed.
