Mission:
Unknown Life, Unknown Dangers
Location: Sickbay
Xavier's well trained team fought to save him, warmed him up, treated his cold based injuries, even put him in a room by himself that was slightly warmer than the rest of Sickbay so that he may warm up and stay warm to undo any damage that his situation may have caused. He still bore the aches and pains in his joints, cold will do that but he was just glad to be alive and hoped his team would not be so strict as to keep his Fiancee out of the room.
All he could remember was staring down the creature intent on killing him, it never too its eyes off him, turned away. Gave its sole attention to killing him.
After her talk with the Commodore, BJ headed straight back to Medical. She knew her parting comment with the man had been a low shot, but he had it coming and so would anyone else who came between her and Xavier. As for the little man in Engineering, he better hope they were never on the same away team or she'd take her time rescuing him if he needed it.
BJ shoved those thoughts out of her mind as she entered Sickbay and headed directly to where Xavier lay. "Hey," she said softly.
Xavier opened his eyes again, there she was, such beauty amongst chaos. "Hey." He slowly lifted his hand to touch her arm. "You are far more attractive to look at, than my previous companion in that room."
She smiled. "You're more handsome than the man who I just had a conversation with," she said as she covered his hand with one of hers. "How are you feeling?"
"I have had better days. A bit of a headache, tender joints." He replied as he lay there smiling up at her. "What conversation?" Not knowing what happened and the severity of it.
"I'm restricted to quarters pending Commodore Hood talking to Admiral S'iraa," BJ told him. "I got a bit hasty in encouraging the Engineer to get you out."
Xavier's smile gradually faded as the her words sank in. "What...what do you mean?" A confused look on his face as he looked her in the eyes when the note she was confined to quarters, the Commodore and Admiral set in.
She took a breath and settled on the edge of the biobed and told him everything that happened from the moment she pulled the phaser on Bradshaw until she left Hood's ready room. "So, I most likely threw my career away, but I don't care as long as I have you," she said.
It was painfully obvious that each word held a sting to his ears. A single tear ran down towards his left ear. "But....." He was lost for words. He knew Admiral S'iraa, he was a reasonable feline, perhaps Xavier could talk to him since he used to be his treating Doctor for many years. He drew a loss at Hood however. His hand gripped her tighter. She'd see he was trying to speak but words failed him.
"It'll be okay," BJ said with a smile. "I have access to certain information which if used, should put a damper on Hood and put him in my corner."
"BJ...." Xavier said shocked. "That is not the type of person you are."
"You flatlined, Xavier," she said, tears starting to roll down her cheeks. "I had to do something and Bradshaw was taking forever to get you free. I don't care. I'll resign and stay with you. You matter more than being Security."
"And you matter more to me, but if you stopped being what you are, even with me you wouldn't be happy." Xavier spoke softly. "You have worked so hard to get where you are." Xavier felt bad, as he saw it, because he got into trouble she acted and got into trouble.
"No one forced me to draw a phaser on Bradshaw," BJ said. "I did it on my own in front of Commodore Hood. There's no way around that. Even if I don't get court martialed, I'm sure to lose my rank and probably my position. None of that matters because you're safe and if Hood tries, the Admiral will be forced to take action."
It was obvious he was disappointed at what happened. He didn't feel worth the value of her career. Love was powerful true but this....how could he measure up to this? "The Admiral is a kind man, I'm sure if you explain, he will see what happened and why. I used to treat him, I'm sure if he knew how important you were to the ship and me, he will take that into consideration."
She shrugged. "There's information that I have which will likely throw more than a few things for a loop, but I'll wait to see what happens. Oh, you'll have to surrender your phaser from our quarters. Hood wants mine, too."
Xavier nodded, sad at what happened, upset at what it could cost her. He really felt his life was not worth a lifetimes accomplishments, training and devotion to a dream. "You know where it is." He spoke softly, aching from his ordeal. "I don't suppose you could rustle up something to eat could you?" He asked.
"I can whip up a gourmet meal from ration bars if you're hungry," BJ said, grateful for the temporary change of subject. "However, you're in luck and you won't have to eat mush soup. What are you hungry for?"
"Anything, I've not eaten and I'm starving." Xavier spoke. Just then his stomach announced its hunger level with an undignified grumble. "Whoops."
"Give me just a minute, love," she said before she placed a kiss on his forehead and went out to find a replicator. A few minutes later, she came back with a tray that had a bowl filled with roasted potato bites, scrambled eggs, bacon and covered with melted cheese and a cup of tea. She pulled a stand over to the side of the table and reached for the fork. "I hope you're hungry."
"Starving." Xavier took the fork and tucked in heartily. It was good and just what he needed to take the craving and edge off for something to eat. "You know, if things do get bad I can request a posting in some remote area and we can have lots of kids." He joked of course, but wanted to make her smile.
BJ got a thoughtful look on her face, then looked at him. "Do you want kids?" she asked with a slight tilt to her head.
That question stopped him cold as he looked at her, cheese threatening to drip from the fork onto his medical garb. "Are you being serious?" He asked, he knew her career was everything, if things worked out well he didn't want to put her in a position where she had to pick again.
"I am," she said. "I never really thought about it before, but I also never thought I'd be engaged to a wonderful man like you, Xav."
"Well, not to cheap skate out of it but I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I always thought I'd be alone, retiring an old greying man. Never did I suspect on getting engaged. Especially to someone like you." Or anyone for that matter but it was clear that by how he said it, she was the best thing that ever happened to him.
"So do you want children, Xavier?" BJ asked him again.
Xavier put the meal down, fork placed gently on top of it. "I guess, I wouldn't mind one. I grew up and only child and I turned out ok." He paused to make a deranged, crazed face for a moment. "If, maybe we feel some company is best then another, maybe. You know it's funny, I treat kids all the time, babies, teens but until now I've never thought about any of my own."
"It's probably going to sound silly, but I used to have a dream of having twins," she said as her eyes took on the far off look of someone recalling a memory. "A little boy and girl with dark hair. I even had names for them. Gabriel and Abigail."
Xavier had to think for a moment. There were some very, very fine lines when it came to children especially in the pregnancy stage. "Well, how about when I'm better I run some tests, check your fertility. We can always fertilise two of your eggs and re-implant, then the old fashioned way to make sure?" Xavier spoke. "We are not altering them in any way, so it's legal."
"Between my genes and yours, they wouldn't need altering," she said with a smile. "You've got some really good ones. I think I'd rather go the old fashioned route to start."
"Well, lets wait till I get home before you jump me." Xavier smiled as he reached for the meal again. "Not that I'd mind but I ache still and I doubt my staff need to see the Chief Medical Officer getting....intimate with his Fiancee."
BJ laughed. "They'd probably make a holo movie of it and sell it on the ship's underground," she said. "Not that I'd mind. You have a hell of a body and I wouldn't be ashamed."
Xavier grinned. "Be that as it may, you also have one hell of a body and the only one I want seeing it...is me." Xavier replied. "Though, there are more rooms than the bedroom." He winked feeling bold and brave.
She laughed again. "Not until you're well rested, love," she said as she offered him the coffee. "Now eat and gain your strength back."
"Yes Ma'am." Xavier replied as he resumed eating the meal. As he did he thought about being a Father, a scary concept for him since he'd not really given it a thought but then again, BJ was someone he never thought he'd get with, or anyone for that matter. "Are you not having anything?"
"I don't really have much of an appetite," BJ said. "But I'm not worried about me. I'm worried about the love of my life."
"If you are trying to cheer me up, it's working." Xavier spoke after chewing the last of the meal, surprised at how quickly he ate it. Was he really that hungry. "Got room for another if you want to lay down?" He shuffled to the edge of the bed to make room.
She sat on the edge of the biobed and eased herself beside of her with one arm draped over his chest as she faced him. "I hope the Chief Medical Officer doesn't yell at us," she teased softly. "I'd hate to have to order him to his quarters for punishment."
Xavier cuddled BJ, pulling her close. Just something about her being there, being about to reach out and touch her, hold her to him that gave him a measure of peace and comfort. "I keep hearing about that guy, it's not the Chief we have to worry about, it's his Fiancee. It's the saying something like behind every good man, stands a good woman....usually rolling her eyes?"
BJ gave a soft laugh. "Let me see some woman rolling her eyes behind you and I'll make her regret it," she said.
"You do like groping my perfect behind don't you?" Xavier chuckled. "Though yours is far better." Giving her backside a gentle squeeze.
"You'd make a good pirate the way you go after the booty," she said with a smile.
"Well, what can I saw. A man of many facets." Xavier replied sounding rather pleased with himself.
"And now," BJ said with a kiss to his lips. "You are going to be a man who gets some rest." With that, she laid her head on his chest and closed her eyes.
