Trials, Tribulations and the Deadly Bio-Organism

Posted on Thu Nov 23rd, 2017 @ 2:44am by Colonel Jason "Jack" Frost

862 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Unknown Life, Unknown Dangers
Location: XO's Office. U.S.S Dreadnought
Timeline: On Route to the Array

Jack gathered all the information from his officers into one report and sent a copy of it to Commander Reign though unaware of what had happened in Sickbay has her being relieved of duty. Decks had been evacuated, civilians secured and marines posted at junctions and jefferies tube points in the hopes that should the organism arrive, they could combat it straight away.

With all that said and done however this information had to go up the chain of command so with him free and not doing much at the moment, he took it upon himself to report in. Jack had done some homework on the new First Officer, new being the key word there as she was appointed mid mission. It did leave him wondering what happened to Commander Bawden but with the loss of the Daughter he suspected that played a part in it.

Braiding and unbraiding a strip of her hair, Anika was neck deep in the damage reports from the stripping of the nacelles and the problems that they had created. While peripherally aware of the disciplinary problems that had occurred; she hadn't yet read the report.

Jack arrived at the XO's office having been told where she was. Commodore Hood was on the Bridge for his shift so Commander Yashui was in her office.

Rising to stretch back muscles tight with strain, Anika twisted to stretch herself and caught her glass with an elbow. It dumped lemonade onto the PADD she'd been using and the glass shattered on the ground. Mumbling a curse she walked to the replicator to get a towel.

Jack heard the crash of glass, wondering if everything was alright he called out. "Commander Yashui, are you alright?" Hoping she was but ready otherwise if it proved not to be the case.

"Fine, just disturbingly clumsy after sitting for a few hours. Please come in, just mind the glass around my desk." Whoever had called out to her would find her crouched picking up the shards of broken glass. A towel on her desk was mopping up her drink.

Jack stepped in and saw the damage. "I have a report for you, status updates for the marines on board." He stood aside out of the way as she conducted damage control. "It's also an opportunity to meet you since you're appointment as First Officer."

"Lovely. Stand by a moment." she requested from her position kneeling on the floor. Glass clinked in her hands as she gathered it piece by piece from the ground. Anika was grateful that the carpet was fine enough that the glass pieces stood atop the nap of the carpet, and she could easily pick them up. Disposing of the glass shards in the recycler, she cleaned and dried her hands before offering him one to shake.

"Lt.Col Jack Frost, Marine Commander." He introduced shaking her hand.

"Anika Yashui, but you clearly knew that. Its a pleasure to meet you Colonel Frost. Please do sit." With an open hand she gestured to the chair.

Jack took the seat. "Thank you." Placing the PADD on her desk in front of her. The report itself was general in nature but detailed in scope as it covered operational capability based on figures barring current losses to the organism.

Turning the PADD over she flipped it on with a thumbprint and her eyes flickered over the report. "I will read this in detail later, anything in there I need to be sure not to miss?"

"No ma'am, I made sure everything was as detailed as possible so that you were informed and updated. He'd copy the report in to his own to SFMC when it came to requesting replacements, no doubt some interesting questions would be asked of him. "Obviously new replacements will need to be detailed and put through ship board orientation, I'll have a complete inventory of supplies and stock by the time we arrive so I can organise a resupply."

"Of course. We dont need further personnel issues so, you please take as much time to vette and orient them." Anikas wry smile was masked by her glancing down at her desktop.

"I don't suppose there will be chance for some R&R will there Commander? Moral is obviously low, we just got our ass handed to us by something that could come and go at will, from anywhere." Jack was among them, nobody liked to lose a fight especially a Marine.

"Of a sort. Well have some down time while we're getting our repairs. I am sure the captain will authorize some R&R but i can't guarentee that means away from the array and the surrounding system. "

A fair call, for everyone it was hard to know what was going to happen once we reached our destination. "Will there be anything else Commander, much to be done before we arrive no doubt?"

"You're correct of course. I'll keep you informed of any changes" Anika extended her hand over her desk to shake his once more. " it was nice to meet you Colonel"

"Commander." Jack replied with a nod and then departed.
