Mission:
Unknown Life, Unknown Dangers
Location: Starbase Promenade
Ediras was browsing a few of the stores on the Promenade of the station for some supplies for his projects, send some physical documentation for delivery to clients as well as some personal effects that he wanted for his quarters. It was at this point however that it gradually dawned on him that a majority didn't suit his needs and an artists touch had to be exact to achieve the desired effect. He could always replicate what he needed but he was on the station and felt it was probably for the best he browse for himself first.
As time went on though and his options were slowly ticked off he found himself wondering about from shop to shop, including shops he had no use for such as a Gym.
Anika frustration knew no bounds, as she stared at wall after wall of fabric. Lace and satin and organza and things she had no names for that had how to be tried on in order to fully understand them. Biting her lip she tried not to growl as she flipped through pictures of dresses that have one of two effects on her, Frump or whore.
Ediras walked out of the Gym somewhat more defeated than when he walked in, life on the Dreadnought was at least simple, straight forward but on the station with tens of thousands of minds filled with emotions, it was taking a toll. He started the walk back the same way he came with the small bag of purchases in his hand.
Closing her eyes she rubbed at temples that were beginning to ache with strain. Perhaps she wasn't cut out to wear a dress. Her family was expecting her probably to not even come to the wedding. Wearing her dress uniform was what they'd expect, but who really cared? Wasn't that all she was anyway? A uniform?
Feeling that frustration it held a familiar sensation about it, he looked around, it was close, strong. Then he saw Anika, it appeared she too was using this time to do some shopping though by the emotions he was picking up from her it seemed it was going worse than his attempt. He was standing in front of a row of dresses as he approached, wondering if she was having trouble picking one out or if she was not sure on a design. "Perhaps this might help." His hand held out a dress for her, lace back and sides, red in colour, intricate design down the front holding extra panels together.
Her eyes traced over him, and the dress he held in his hand before a time you smile tugged at her lips" I suppose I can try one more before I give up."
"I'm sorry if I am interrupting or if I am being forward. I could feel your frustration from out there." Ediras replied standing with a smile though still feeling her radiate her emotions. "I can leave if you feel I have or am."
"Not at all. I am just trying to find something appropriate for my sister's wedding. I probably should just wear my dress uniform that's what everyone's expecting me to do. But for once, I wanted... " the words she didn't say we're bouncing around in her head , to feel like she was more than just an officer. To feel like a woman , perhaps even to be looked at like she was pretty . She paused, shook her head and assess the dress that she held now. " I don't suppose that matters. So I should try this one huh?"
"You did say one more." Ediras replied with a smile. "I think it will suit you and far better than this gathering of outfits." Indicating the rack of dresses before her. He hoped that she liked his choice but his artists eye had played a part in the dress vs her frame.
"Very well, but I expect you to wait and pass judgment." Her voice was teasing as she took the dress into the dressing room and once more she made out of her black pants and purple top. She liked this top for it hugged her curves and tied in the back much like a present. Unzipping the Lacy dress she slid into it with no small amount of pleasure at the feel of the satin against her skin. She zipped it up as much as she was able and then called out "can you zip me the rest of the way?"
Playing the gentleman he slowly peeked through the curtain to see her back partially zipped up. He took the zip between finger and thumb, taking the base of the zip with his other hand he zipped her up and stepped back out and close the curtain again. "I hope that was ok?"
She was surprised that the warmth of his hand transferred through the dress even though he hadn't touched her. Straightening it she emerged from the dressing room.
Ediras took a step back and gave her the artists eye from head to toe. The dress was very appealing, low at the front, hugging at the sides, accentuated her curves and flowed very well on her. "You look very beautiful." He spoke with an approving smile and radiant warmth.
Anika couldn't help but blush, at his frank appraisal, he really thought she was beautiful? And it's been a very long time since anyone had said that to her. She couldn't help but be warned by the words. " is it wedding appropriate?"
"What is the theme and colour choice of the event?" Ediras asked having forgotten to consider these two things when handing her the dress. "While you were changing I did see others that might suit you?" He was trying to help but didn't want to push her since she did say 'just one more'.
"Well my sister will be wearing the traditional red , so a red is an appropriate color for the bridal side of the family. Jewel tones are fine of course but her outfit will be red and gold."
"Well." As Anika changed he took the chance to gaze and saw something else that he hoped would give her options for thought. "How about this one?" He reached over to a rack where dressed hung, unbeknown to Anika that those were others he'd chosen.
She reached out of the dressing room and grabbed one at random, pulling a navy blue dress with Lacy sleeves off of the rack. Sliding into it with no difficulty she shook out her hair, and moments later stepped out into the light. It wasn't quite as flattering as the red dress she'd had on, being a bit boring.
"What do you think?" He asked making the hand gesture for a little twirl.
She made the twirl with a little girlish giggle, and tried to see herself in the mirror." I don't like this one quite as much."
He handed her the next dress, a light blue in colour instead for her to try on. "One more?" Hoping that perhaps another's help it would make the whole ordeal less frustrating for her.
"Why not?" She said as she gave the dress an honest appraisal. It was short but she shrugged and dissappeared into the dressing room again.
Ediras could feel the frustration he felt earlier from her ebb, it seemed that having someone to bounce opinions off of. He would give an honest opinion but on the other side of the coin it was good to see Anika as a woman and not the uniform clad Commander everyone knew her to be on the Dreadnought. So he patiently waited, sat next to the rack while she changed.
The shorter dress had the effect of making her legs seem like they went on for miles. She liked it, more than a little bit but wasn't sure if Ediras wanted to deal with the attention of the single men at her sister's wedding ceremony. Or her mother attempting to throw single men at her as if she was incapable of making up her own mind.
"Well in that I am confident you will turn some heads, you look amazing." Ediras complimented as he looked her over. It was better than the last one yet the red one he first gave her still rang the winner for the occasion selection.
Her cheeks flared red again at his compliment. Half turning around she glanced at herself in the mirror and blushed more. "So whats next fashion guru?"
"This one." He took another of his selection off the rack and held it out to her. A teal off the shoulder dress, low at the back, above the knee at the front. He failed to consider the braless element of the dress but by the time he handed it over, it was too late to say anything. He hoped that she would not think poorly of him for a simple and very honest mistake.
Well I can't wear a bra with this one she thought, and unclasped it from her body slipping out of the bra was easy enough, but she didn't realize that there was a gap in the curtains. When she bent a little to step into the dress, Ediras could see everything. She adored the color.
Ediras was looking around minding his business when he felt a warmth come from her emotions, it caused him to look hoping all was well but what he saw however caused a warmth of his own, a slight redness to his cheeks and an averted gaze elsewhere.
The top half of the dress she liked a lot but the bottom half was kind of meh. The asymmetrical cut didnt really flatter her body, and as much as she liked the color, the fact that it made her seem shorter was not a plus.
"So, what do you think?" He asked hearing silence fall behind the curtain again.
Stepping out from behind the curtain she struck a pose that accentuated the lines of the dress. "Love the color but its not super attractive on me. "
"I would differ but ok." It was fine, he couldn't pick one every time that she might like and he was accepting of that but he still had one dress to go before his arsenal had run dry. "Last one." It was another off the shoulder type but the way the purples faded and changed tone was very attractive, at least to him but it was all on Anika as she had to wear it.
This new dress felt almost luxurious and she shivered in hedonistic pleasure as she let the last one fall away and slid this one over her bare skin. She came out of the dressing room after zipping it closed and spun in a little circle.
"Personally, I like it, it looks good, it suits you." Ediras complimented as he tried to make up for failure of the last dress. He knew clothes shopping was always a minefield for people and he was no different, he thought the dress would look good on her but she disagreed and he was fine with it. He couldn't pick a winner every time. "Perhaps the first for the wedding, the shorter one for another formal event and this one for a date or dinner?"
"The first, the red with lace." Ediras replied smiling as he rose to his feet from the waiting bench. "Even if it were not for a wedding I think it would suit you for most occasions."
Her cheeks flushed and she nodded "let me just get dressed. " silent feet took her into the dressingroom and she stripped down again, hanging the dress back on its hangar. She slid back into the pants and tied a neat bow in the shirt ties before shimmying into it.
While he waited as she dressed he asked. "Have you had time for your artwork recently?" He had but very little, too little to keep his projects on time but hoped the reports would permit an extension on his time frames.
"Some. Been pretty busy with damage reports and resupply requests."
He knew that feeling with all the rushing about it was hard to focus with everything going on. "So um, can I ask what you have planned next?" Wondering if she'd like to get something to eat since they were on the station.
"Not a thing since you were so kind to rescue me from the trial that is dress shopping. If only you could rescue me from the wedding itself."
"Flying solo?" He asked as they walked to the checkout where payment and delivery could be made.
"The curse of being an officer i'm afraid" she said with a touch of sadness in her voice. "Mother is apalled that her precious girlchild isnt gooey over babies and wanting to set her career aside to have 2 or 3 dozen."
"When is the wedding?" He asked, not knowing how long they had before the crew would be shipped elsewhere so figured it had to be soon, spur of the moment kind of thing.
"Middle of next week"
Ediras thought to himself for a moment. "How about, dinner with you wearing one of those and in exchange, I'll go with you." It was not like he had anything else to do and if anything from what he felt from her, saving was desperately needed.
Anika stared at him with her mouth slightly open for a long moment before she mentally shook her self "Deal though i think im getting the better end of the deal."
"I don't know about that. Dinner with a lovely lady, beautifully dressed and I go to a function all dressed up myself with you on my arm. Seems like a double win for me." Ediras smiled slightly surprised that she agreed considering his terms was dinner and they had only met a few times before on board the ship.
She covered her flaming cheeks and then replied through her fingers "Yes you get to have dinner with me, but you also have to deal with my whole crazy family. You have no idea."
"Well we can talk about that over dinner and the approach you want to take as Im pretty sure you are going to have plenty of questions thrown at you so we should make sure what we say works together." He replied, he didn't want to cause her problems and knowing all the players in the event might help him talk with others without appearing rude, especially at a wedding.
She gave a delighted little laugh and shook her head. "This...is going to be fantastic." she said softly. "Let me get changed and I'll meet up with you here in say an hour? That way you can pick where we go."
"An hour it is." It would give im time to get back, shower and change into something more suited to her own apparel at least.
