Mission:
Unknown Life, Unknown Dangers
Location: USS Dreadnought / Starbase
Ayla walked slowly with Miracle at her side as they moved through the Promenade of the big Starbase. They both carried several packages as they window shop, squeaking over some of the more prominent displays that caught their eyes and interest. Ayla kept an eye on the time as they were to meet Mark at one of the café, restaurants that dotted the promenade.
They both wore matching sundresses and sandals. Hair combed in their own unique fashions. Miracle hair was much longer than her moms, do to the fact she wasn't Fleet.
I was at my desk running systems checks on the weapons systems, I'd sent Ayla and Miracle to go shopping because I didn't want them sitting around the home awash in the lingering clouds of frustration and annoyance at the sheer amount of complications these repairs were kicking up. It was times like this that I was glad I was not an engineer.
After a while though my patience ran out, I should be out spending time with my family letting station engineers fix this not me! I showered because working myself up worked up an accompanying sweat. I changed into something comfortable and after a quick check I found they were still on the Starbase, fortunately the next shuttle was due to leave in 2 minutes.
Ayla glanced at the time and frowned. Once again he was running late. Miracle and her continued on to the arranged meeting place to wait for Mark.
"Momma? Is Daddy coming, or did he beg off like the last time?" Miracle looked up her mom.
"Hez show. Iz wouldn't let him beg off this time. But yooz know how wez get engrossed in ourz work sometimes..." Ayla looked down at her daughter looking up at her with a nod. "... If hez late. Iz drag him by the ears to make time for uz." Getting a soft giggle from Miracle.
I couldn't be late, little one wouldn't forgive me if I was. I knew I'd spent a lot of time working and not enough time for family which yet again made me wonder if I should leave the service and be the proper Father and Husband I was meant to be. When I rounded the corner to where they said they would be I smiled when I saw them. "Here I am, reporting as ordered." I said with a smile kneeling down for my daughter.
"Squeeeeea!" Miracle squealed as she ran into her Fathers embrace. Hugging him as best as she could. "Daddy!"
Ayla filled with warmth at seeing Mark and their daughter, Miracle. She smiled with love and pride. At least she still had a family to care for. And her heart filled again with warmth of love for her family. She waited patiently allowing Father/Daughter time as Miracle didn't see much of them back on the ship.
I playfully roughed up our Daughter, cuddles, rufflingly her hair, scratch behind the ears. After a few moments of this I perched her on my shoulder and walked to Ayla. "Want some of that or should I wait till we are home?" I winked at Ayla, she knew what I meant and how I meant it.
Ayla looked at him, seductively and spoke softly, "At home." Smile widened as she gave a slow wink of promise. She placed her hand in the small of his back, just above the waistline of his pants to walk beside him. "Where do yooz want to go?"
Miracle piped up, "Squeeee! Iz wanna go to the park!" She placed her hands around her daddy's forehead to hang on as she got comfortable on her daddy's shoulders.
"The lady speaks." I replied holding her legs as they danged down my shoulder. "And what do you wanna do when we get to the park?" My arm went around Ayla's slender waist. "You know, when was the last time I trimmed you?"
Ayla smiled at him. "Too long..."
Then Miracle spoke up, "The swings! Anna the slides!" Miracle enjoyed being up high on Daddy's shoulders to see the sights, instead of just glimpse through the crowds.
Ayla smiled as she walked next to her Mate and daughter. She enjoyed being with him. It was time to look once more to the future and she had Miracle to focus on and her Mate.
Entering the park we saw everything a child could need for fun, there was a set of swings available so I walked us over to them. "Maybe Mommy should get in the other swing hmm?" I asked Miracle. Thankfully the other swing was more adult designed, a seat only. As soon as Miracle was inside I get her a gentle push but ready in case she'd fall.
Miracle squealed in delight as she was pushed forward. "Higher!"
Ayla stood off to the side and watched Mark push Miracle in the swing. She looked around the area. Eyes twinkling in merriment. Letting them two have time together, Ayla scampered over to the nearest replicator and fixed a picnic basket for them to enjoy latter.
I let Miracle play on the swing pushing her gently, not too high but enough to be fun while Ayla disappeared for a moment. Hearing her laugh though, the joy in it reminded me of our little girl that wasn't with us anymore. I knew I'd have to come to terms with it, I was doing my usual thing of bottling it up, I'd explode soon enough but I needed to be strong for now for the rest of the family.
