Mission: The Emerald Road
Location: MXO's Office

Sam had heard about the fight that took place outside Jack's office, she was unsure on the details but it involved Jack beyond his position that much was learned. His old assistant had a been debriefed and revealed that she instigated it, she picked the fight with the medical doctor which not only cost her her position but a reduction in grade as well. Everyone knew of the Fleet/Marine divide but many had spent a long time with the crew to eliminate it, fighting like this only served to enhance the mistrust between the two services and the compatibility of the pair of them serving on one vessel.

While in her office Sam got word that Jack had been called to the First Officer's Office which she suspected was to explain his side of what happened. The new First Officer was exactly that, new. She was an unknown element to a recipe that required fine tuning over time as people worked together. Sam was happy to give the commander all the time she needed to settle in and do her job but only time would tell for the rest. Part of her thought back to Annabelle, how things had changed since she got involved in her life and how everything seemed so much better when she was around her. Dinners were always interesting as was the holodeck shopping sprees to think of new clothing as well as each other. She still was not a fan of the eye lashes.

Sam had to admit though that Annabelle had done well in expanding the wardrobe collection so things other than fleet uniform and issued wears, that included what went under it.

On the tabletop sat a picture of Annabelle and Sam laughing, a snapshot of one of their holodeck visits somewhere. Her arms around Sam's shoulders with her head next to hers. It made her think of the time when she told Jack about her and worried about how he might reaction, nothing like how he actually did and even now she was thankful for the support and encouragement that he gave her to pursue what she wanted.

Sam was mid read of a evaluation on some of the new additions to the team, with everything going on it was bound to have some kind of knock on effect to the troops. She rubbed her brow as she became aware of the headache she'd forgotten about due to the indepth reading she was doing.

One of the new recruits Private George Gibbs was struggling, as with most first assignment types they missed home and Sam couldn't help but feel that since wind of JAG being on board had swept through the ship like a wildfire only serving to put many on edge, it also compounded the missing of home. Private Gibbs's ratings had dropped slightly and a review of his 'Boot Camp' evaluation and test scores indicated this was yet another fluctuation of a similar type. Sam couldn't help but wonder if the life of a marine was really suited to what many of his friends have indicated as a gentle, friendly and dependable individual but struggles often with the expectations and rigors of marine life.

She thought that perhaps some had thought the same of her, at the time of her basic training she was hardly above 5 feet tall, a thin whisp of a woman with many rough edges and a temper that often showed itself. Time and and training though had tempered that small angry woman into a marine, skilled and talented and such to garner her way through the ranks to Major. Of course she knew that would not always be the case with everyone that started just like Gibbs and she did but she had to give him the chance to progress with encouragement, because she knew some of the men could be ruthless in the jests sent out.

She sent a message to SSGt Winters that perhaps maybe some one on one or putting Gibbs with a team would help shape him up to be a better marine was for the best. Sam didn't want to ship Gibbs out, she wanted to give him a chance to test himself and demonstrate if not to anyone else but himself that he had what it took and could be a good marine if he worked at it.

A knock came at her door. "It's open." Sam called as she sat back in her chair waiting to see who stepped in. "What can I do for you Corporal?" It was Corporal Jeff Wedd, a solid marksman and decent marine.

"I'd like to put in for some LOA Ma'am?" Wedd asked.

"Oh, may I ask why?" Sam softly replied.

"My Wife Ma'am."

"You realise we just left spacedock, the chance of you getting off the ship now is remote at best. Why didn't you handle this before we left?" Sam asked puzzled somewhat.

The marine went on to explain what had happened during the down time, he like everyone else had been side tracked with interviews and questions and unfortunately it had eaten up into his free time, time he needed now.

"Best I can do is speak to the Colonel but I honestly can't promise anything. You really should have handled this before we left." Sam concluded.

Somewhat deflated the marine nodded and left the office.
