855 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: The Emerald Road
Location: Marine Commanders Quarters

The lights were off in the quarters where Jack was, everything seemed normal bar the plate of food discarded and forgotten on its polished surface, knife and fork neatly together with a crumpled used napkin tucked under one edge of the plate. The only light came from his computer console which denoted a message awaited him, the only sound was the shower that ran, steam wafting in the various rooms from the bathroom creating a slight mist along the ceiling.

Acacia paced from one side of her quarters to the other contemplating once more what she was going to do. Hes not going to come to you, if you care about him you have to go to him. a tiny piece of her was tremblingly afraid he was going to reject her for what had happened. She was still dressed head-to-toe in uniform, and once she'd made the decision to leave her quarters, her feet took her on autopilot to his door.

Eyes closed as Jack felt the water rain down upon him with consistent ease. He felt it trickle down both sides of his face to his nose from which it streamed or dripped. Every question his mind had, he tried to formulate an answer but it only raised more questions. Even after she said she understood that did little to ease his own self inflicted injuries of self loathing, disgust and hatred.

She entered the room, the doors opening obediently before her for he'd never taken away her permission to enter his domain. The heat and the heaviness of the mist were almost oppressive and it felt almost like shed stepped into a jungle. But when the door closed and Acacia was plunged into pitch darkness, she stopped dead and listened.

With his eyes closed he missed the invading light from the hallway outside, the sound of the water and that in his ears masked her entry as he sat, stewed, boiled in the aftermath of his action. Maybe the Commander was right, maybe he should speak to someone, but he thought he had this under control.

There was the sound she was looking for, the ragged breath that was just slightly louder than the water. He was here! It took a long few minutes for her eyes to acclimate to the darkness. As the shadows became shapes she recognized she unbuttoned her collar and jacket, sliding it quietly off of smooth arms before she walked into the bathroom.

Something told him he was no longer alone, a sense developed over years of training but he also knew that it could be only one other as the doors would only open for the addition, Acacia. The only indication of change was the slight turn of his head towards the door, only slight but not enough to change much in his current state. While in the one hand he was surprised she was here, the other he was glad she was.

She had not been trying to hide her presence from him, knowing that to attempt to do so would be dangerous. When she saw him however her mouth opened and then shut again without anything coming out. Her heart broke a little bit to see him like this, the picture of misery. So deeply lost in his own thoughts and deeds. Oh, Jack...How long have you been in there? Her clothing made barely any noise as she who stripped it from her body and dropped it to the floor. Even nude, the heat hammered at her, and almost immediately her body began to glisten with the moisture in the air. Stepping into the spray, her skin broke into goosebumps at the heat of it. Biting her lip she brought in the other foot and gracefully settled herself down between his knees.

Jack's hands parted, his arms opened in silence as she sat in front of him, her body as wet as his own as without a word she sat. Jack didn't care one bit that she was as naked as he was, didn't care that for the better part of nearly 30 minutes he'd been under this heated spray and now it would be shared with someone as he wanted for her to finish and get comfortable.

Acacia slid back and gently rested herself against his chest, her cheek pressing against his shoulder. Curling herself, her feet slid under his far raised knee and out into the cooler bathroom air.

Once she was done moving Jack remained still for a moment before his hands worked under her arms. His right hand came up to rest low on her left shoulder, his left hand dropped resting where his fingertips could feel the indented line of her waistband. Both hands held her to him and in utter silence he placed his head upon her shoulder turning away so that he was facing to one side, water pooling in his ear.

Her breath caught at the gesture and she pressed the tiniest of kisses to his head. Her fingers moved, and inched their way over until her palm rested over his heart.
