Too Much Time...

Mission: New Faces and Terror Beyond

Jack was sat in his office looking through the new manifest that now included the new additions to the department. For the most part many were average types but there were a few with noted skills and talents but all of them shared a common trait. Not one had see actual combat. Jack always tried to avoid discriminating marines based on experience or the lack of it, he tried hard to give everyone the same opportunities and chances but he knew in doing so for some a first taste may well be the last.

Of course new faces also meant new personalities and there was always the odd one or two that thought they would be the next General. Most of the more experienced men on board simply dismissed this while some of the new held a different opinion.

The loss of the Admiral had effected many in the department and the new CO, Captain Havrelli for the most part was an unknown and for marines that was dangerous. Unknowns often got people killed. Naturally the benefit of the doubt was afforded but that did little to calm the nerves of the troops. Jack tried to distract people with training, holodeck simulations and chances at different certifications just for something to do but he knew that time would be the healer here, not him.

Even now as he stood at the one way window overlooking the barrack area he could see small groups of people busy but he knew from the movements that the duties were self imposed, forced upon them to kill time.

Part of him felt the same way, the want to do something to kill time. No doubt sooner or later the new CO would come and see him, or be summoned to the Captain in his Ready Room. As he looked out towards the barracks he saw some marines around the sparring floor, two clearly proficient marines taking turns at each other. Everyone needed to blow off some steam somehow and as long as Sickbay wasn't involved he was happy to leave it at that.

Still, with the new people being minded by the more experienced ones and new training schedules being written up to incorporate the new people into squads Jack was hopeful that maybe things will return to normal within a few weeks. Doubtful but he could hope.

He'd considered ducking down to the range to squeeze off a few rounds but right now he knew he had paperwork to do, Snyder and Winters had done most of the work already but there were 'MCO Only' requirements that had to seal the deal on what the two ladies had done.

"Coffee, double sweet."

The familiar hum of the replicator lasted a few seconds as the drink appeared and within moments the smell of it.

The fleeting thought about contacting his parents now that the JAG investigation popped into his head but not yet, he wanted to get everything squared away before doing that. Taking his steaming drink he sat at this desk and turned on the tabletop computer, upon the screen listed the items needing his attention.

Item One....
