Mission:
New Faces and Terror Beyond
Location: Ready Room
Captain Havrelli had just finished decorating his new Ready Room, nothing too much but enough to give it his own personal feel to the room. If he was going to spend a lot of time in this room when not seated on the Bridge he didn't see why it should be plain and boring. Things at home were settled and unpacked but now that the day off he'd given the crew was over and done with it was back to the grind stone.
Ra was just polishing off the last of the updates from Command when he was informed that a communication was received for him. Ra had it routed to him so that he could take it privately. It was no surprise that the logo on screen was from Starfleet Command, who however was.
Admiral Sandra Wolf.
Ra knew Sandra from the wedding, she was one of the guests that attended. "Admiral, to what do I owe this pleasure?"
Sandra smiled, she always liked Ra's polite nature. "Hello Captain, settling in to your new command?"
"Yes, finished unpacking last night." Ra replied.
"How do you find the Dreadnought?" Sandra asked leaning back in her chair.
"She is a capable vessel, I look forward to seeing what she is capable of first hand." Ra spoke getting more comfortable himself. "You have a mission for me?"
"I do yes." Sandra paused. "Two days ago a science conference took place to discuss the damage warp fields did to subspace and how new refinement techniques could aid in reducing damage." Sandra called up the basic information for both to see. "Delegates from the Romulans, Klingons, Cardassian, Vulcan..every major warp capable race sent people."
"Such a feat would greatly aid in space travel." Ra spoke looking over the information scrolling down his screen.
"Unfortunatly during the conference someone detonated an explosive. It brought down the building, confirmed dead currently stand at 361, injured number into the thousands." Sandra explained as the last snippet of visual feed was replayed. "The building collapsed onto a school and partially destroyed a hospital."
"Are there any leads?" Ra asked as he watched the footage.
"Nobody has publicly claimed responsibility for the attack, of course accusations are being thrown around by several attending parties." Sandra sent over the intelligence report.
"Any of them hold weight?" Ra asked.
"Some, I have included everything in an encoded data transmission for you. Sadly many of the other powers are reluctant to aid in a proper investigation, the Klingons and Romulans have all sent vessels into the area." There was little information Sandra could send on this particular issue, details were still being investigated.
"Admiral, do you feel a vessel such as the Dreadnought would be ideal? Given the tensions perhaps a smaller ship might not provoke a reaction like this one no doubt would." Ra asked, last thing he wanted was an engagement on his first mission.
"Normally I would agree with you but the Klingons had sent a Negh'Var Battleship and the Romulans a Valdore, even the Cardassians sent a Keldon. The Vulcans are playing mediator between them presently but sooner or later our attendance is expected." Sandra paused. "The orders I have for you are to enter the area, meet with who ever you can to get information. Maintain stability in the region and do not provoke the Romulans or the Klingons. We have to find out who is responsible for this."
"May I contact them for information?"
"If you feel it would help but I would not count on them being very forecoming, but perhaps if they began talking then it might stave off a conflict." Sandra clearly hoped but that hope had a short limit.
"What was so special about the location?" Ra asked when he realised that no major power held claim of the area.
"Neutral territory, Cardassians suggestion actually. It took a couple of months for everyone to decide." Sandra replied. "Codeis System."
"Political concerns?"
"Many. Obviously this development would have benifited everyone, that was the agreed terms after the incident Captain Picard and the Enterprise observed. Everyone would meet, discuss and share the findings for all."
"Someone clearly felt otherwise." Ra answered thoughtfully. "Anything else?"
"One last thing." Sandra paused as she cancelled the onscreen data. "The Federation Council is under a lot of pressure to get to the bottom of this, they were the ones that suggested the joint conference. We need answers, the sooner obviously is better but accuracy is critical."
"When am I cleared to leave?" Ra asked so that he could begin preparations.
"Immediately. All information will be sent to you, ensure that everything is logged and recorded. It may become necessary to demonstrate our efforts to others."
"Understood Admiral, I will depart momentarily." Ra spoke already relaying typed orders to the Bridge.
"Good luck Captain."
Ra nodded and the line closed. He was looking forward to his first mission as Captain of the Dreadnought but had hoped for something more routine to ease himself into things.
