Mission:
The Emerald Road
Location: MCO's Office
"It's not often I see you down these parts these days Mark." Jack spoke as he turned in his chair to see the Commander, former MCO and friend leaning against the door frame.
"Yeah well, old habits and all." Mark replied. Jack was right though, it had been a long time. "So how are things with you these days? Rumour has it you are with that wild haired medical officer?"
"Acacia, yeah she is wild that's for sure." Jack answered. "What about you and the Mrs?"
"Up's and downs, with Marcie and all."
"Yeah, I'm really sorry about that, I can't begin to fathom what that's like." Jack's voice softened, he felt for the guy but wanted to give him all the space and time he needed.
"So, what do you think of this mission?" Mark asked as he stepped away from the doors to let them close, what they had to say he didn't want all to hear.
"Honestly, perk of being in command is its not up to me, I just follow orders. On the flipside though, I feel for the Commodore nor do I envy the position hes in." Jack spoke as he kicked his feet up onto the corner of the desk. "Its got to be tough to have the lover taken. Part of me thinks this is a stitch up, they did it to the Admiral remember all because of the Ascensions."
"Yeah, its not looking good." Mark replied after some thought. "Do you ever feel that you have been on board the ship so long, that you almost feel too old or outdated?"
"Well we have been with the same crew for 10 years. Most people stick with a crew for a time and move on, expend horizons, new experiences." Jack spoke as he thought about it. "Hell sometimes I feel like I'm part of a furniture."
"Yeah, some of the faces I see on board now, makes me feel old." Mark said as he looked at the ring on his finger. "Would you change anything?"
"A few things." Mark spoke. "Knowing what I do now at least. I probably would have retired from the service, maybe moved planetside or where ever Ayla wanted to go. Had to be safer than the ship."
"Yeah, shes can be dangerous." Jack said as he wondered what he'd be doing right now if he'd accepted his Fathers offer.
"So tell me about this Acacia lass?" Mark asked.
"She.....is amazing. She's out of my league." Jack started. "She's passionate, wild, has a fire in her that is jaw dropping. Definitely not one to underestimate." Jack spoke as he remembered the fight outside his office. "Even though she's younger than me and far more attractive, she doesn't seem to care about how I look or the scars."
"Women love war wounds, adds character." Mark chipped in. "Don't tell me she's knackering you?"
"Energetic would be an understatement." Jack returned with a smile.
"You mean you are getting out classed by a woman thats what, buck fifty and change?"
"You have no idea of what she can do." Jack grinned remembering waking up to her in one of his shirts, mistaking her for coffee because he was not even remotely awake yet.
"So what's the take on the Klingons?" Mark asked.
"Well, regardless of how we cut it we need them more like the Commodore said but they don't know that. I don't think they know the importance of the information they have to us. They could think maybe we want to attend what ever is going on, that we are less than starfleet quality. But who knows?" Jack said as he thought about his answer.
"Guess we will find out when Commander Reign does her thing." Mark spoke.
"You think shes up to it?" Jack asked.
"Reign, without a doubt. If she wasn't she would have said." Mark replied.
"Yeah she comes over as the type." Jack said as he scratched his cheek.
"What do you know about her?" Mark asked.
"Full on, knows her stuff. Full of duty and plans ahead. Takes no crap but happy to stomp an ass or two if required. Passionate about Xavier from what I hear, harm him and its not the Commodore you have to worry about." Jack answered.
"Yeah, never seen Xavier smile so broadly." Mark replied grinning as he shuffled in his chair to get more comfy. "How's Snyder working out, not seen her much?"
"Good, shes more hands on than me, though does make me think I should be more hands on too. If I had to guess, she'll make LTC in a year or so."
"Going to suck for you to train up a new Exec." Mark spoke. "Or you thinking of hanging up the rig for this hotty you have on your arm?"
"It's thinking like that that gets you in to trouble." Jack grinned. "And we have enough of that already so save it for later."
Mark chuckled to himself at the reply, a grin on his face as he thought. "I should get going, stuff to do and my team think I've only gone to the Bridge."
"I think you got lost along with way."
"Yeah, maybe."
