A Relaxing Evening

1,802 words; about a 9 minute read

Mission: The Emerald Road
Location: James' Quarters

Kelly had been lounging in her chair by her terminal when it beeped to alert her that she had a message. She switched from the MSD of the Prometheus class ship she had been studying and pulled the message up, smiling when she saw it was from James.

I'll be there in ten, she replied. Just you and me tonight. She sent the message, then picked up her coffee mug to pour herself a fresh cup before she checked what she was wearing and gave a nod of approval at the fingerless lace gloves, Straight Outta Starfleet sleeveless t-shirt, black jogging pants and a pair of sandals. "Good enough," she said as she ran her fingers through her hair.

Five minutes later, Kelly pressed the chime to James' door with the coffee mug still in hand and waited for him to open it.

James was just finishing getting himself dressed, hopping through the main room trying to pull a sock on as he made his way to the door. "One second." He called out with the last few hops before the rogue sock slipped on to his foot. Then the doors opened. "Well hello there." A broad smile on his face as he took in the sight of her standing at his door.

"Hi, babe," she said as she leaned forward to give him a kiss. "Miss me?"

"Like you need to ask." James leaned in and kissed her, his lips lingering to hers. "I don't suppose I could invite you in could I? Its not penthouse suite but its comfortable, a few luxuries, good company." He smiled stepping aside for her.

Kelly stepped in after returning the kiss and then took a sip of her coffee. "So how are you liking the engine room on this bird?" She asked him.

"Honestly, I don't. In the one hand I know this is temporary so I don't want to invest too much time into the engines since someone else is going to take over from me when the Dreadnought is fixed. In the other I dread just what they are doing to my engines during the repairs. Bit like walking into a fresh engineering, all that work undone." James replied as he watched Kelly enter. "What about you, miss anything?"

"Not really," she said as she set her octopus mug down. "Then again, I'm just an Ensign. We get crap duty on Delta no matter what ship we're on."

"I was just about to make us something to eat, want in on that?" James offered watching and listening to Kelly. He was glad for the somewhat clean appearance of the rooms, he didn't like clutter if he could avoid it and with a lady around, it had to be clean without clothes tossed all over the place or hanging off backs of chairs.

"Sure, Kelly said as she moved over to give him a kiss. "Need some help?"

"If you got a solid idea of what you'd like sure. Otherwise I'm winging it." James chuckled to himself. He liked to cook and enjoyed it but often his bout with of what to cook was his hang up. "Though I did think of maybe some beef, potatoes with greens and gravy." Then another thought came in. "Taco's." And another. "Spaghetti?"

"Woah, woah," she said. "Just calm down for a minute. You're all over the quadrant with ideas. Tacos will work fine."

"Its always good to have options." James smiled as he began to work on Taco's. "Besides, If I didn't have options, you'd get bored of me. Can't have Tiff enjoying you all to herself now can we?"

"Then make steak crostini with ghost peppers and pepper jack cheese," Kelly suggested. "If you want to spice things up, lover."

"Sold, to the fine lady of there." James admitted that idea sounded pretty good and so he wasted little effort in getting what he needed. It didn't take long for the room to fill with the cooking aromas and they smelt wonderful. "Did you want to cut the bread?"

"You trust me with a knife?" she asked jokingly as she retrieved and approached the bread like a serial killer with a maniacal grin on her face.

"Do I have to get you a plastic kiddies knife?" James smirked. "A spork too, paper plates maybe?" He chuckled. "As long as you are not tinkering with my warp cores, I'm sure I can trust you with a knife."

"Oh, it's far too late for that," Kelly said. "I have a secondary in Engineering and already put my contingency plans in when I came aboard. Ya know, just in case." With a wicked grin, she began to slide the bread like it was a Ferengi that owed her latinum, but each slice was the same as the one before it.

"I'll give you just in case. Don't make me call Tiff down here and go all security on your ass....because you and I both know, she will and you will enjoy it." James replied as he cooked the parts of the meal. "Speaking of, have you seen her these last few days? I've not."

"Neither have I," she said. "Then again, I've been busy running all over this ship trying to learn all that I can. We could send her a comm, you know."

"Oh I know." James replied. "And yeah, I've never been on a Prometheus class, very classy but I miss the Ascension." He spoke as he heated up a pair of plates. "You like her don't you?" A grin on his face at the fun the three of them enjoyed before.

"What's not to like?" Kelly asked as she went to the replicator and fiddled with it for a moment. She came back with a heating element and began to run it over the sliced bread.

James raised an eyebrow, Kelly was not far wrong in that one. "Want me to call her and invite her too, or shall it be just us tonight?" Offering both options, open to both but giving Kelly the choice to pick.

"I want you tonight," she said as she finished toasting the bread. "And yes, I know that makes me selfish, but I promise to make it up to you. Now lay the meat on here before you lay it elsewhere."

James smirked as he took the warmed plates and began serving. "Alright." Knowing better to stand between a woman and a meal, especially if its with good company. He carried the plates over to the table, then another with any left overs. Refills of drinks followed, napkins too and then he sat at the table. "Dinner, served."

"You primate," Kelly chided him. "Hairless monkey boy." She took the heating element and moved to melt the cheese over the pepper and meat. "There. I swear, do you even use utensils to eat?" Of course, she was smiling and a twinkle was in her eyes when she said it .

"I seem to recall you not doing any complaining when you were flat on your back or under Tiff's very loving affections and then there was me lending a helping hand....or two. So this primate has something you like." He grinned seeing the look in her eyes.

She giggled and went to replicator to create a couple glasses of red wine for them before she returned and handed him one. "Hey. I'm an open minded Federation citizen and open to new experiences. I didn't hear you complaining when I brought her to you, either. In fact, I think you made up a few new languages that night."

"Maaaaybe." James sheepishly replied with a grin plastered all over his face. What was not to like about two very lovely, very chesty ladies all over him that night. He took the glass, the aroma of which smelt very nice. "So, opened minded and all, how do you feel about us?"

Kelly sat down and reached for one of the crostini and popped it in her mouth, savoring the blistering heat of the ghost pepper before she chewed and swallowed. "You mean you still need a tricorder to figure out that you make me drown hamsters in my panties every time I see you?"

"What I meant, was something more official, partners, girlfriend, lovers....a relationship." James replied as he also sampled the meal made. He wondered how Kelly would feel about that question, she was an open minded girl after all, but a relationship to some could feel like being tied down.

"Are you asking me to be your girlfriend and if you are, where would that leave Tiff?" she asked after taking a sip of the sweet red wine and looked over the rim of the glass at him.

"Well, since you asked. How would you feel about including her?" James asked, knowing that was a very risky question to ask. "You like her, as do I. We have had fun together and enjoyed it." James continued. "I'm not saying you can't have fun with her without me, you can, if you wanted. I was just wondering what you thought about including her."

"I really wouldn't mind. You aren't the jealous type as you've proven," Kelly said. "But in the end, it would be up to her to decide if she wanted to continue with us, or go her own way."

"Yeah, for sure." James accepted that and was prepared for it. It was a choice and one he could only put to Tiff when he next saw her, he wouldn't force it, pressure or anything, just lay it to her and let her think on it to decide. "Do you think we should do it together? Show that we are both ok with it or should I do it?"

"We both should," she responded after a minute of thought. "Otherwise, she's likely to say the same thing I just said, but I'd be the one in question. Other than that, I'm all for a three way relationship."

"See if we can catch her tomorrow or something." James spoke as he ate some more though there was no hiding the grin, or the mind full of ideas about Kelly, Tiff and Kelly, and the three of them.

"I'll arrange a meeting," Kelly promised him. "Now let's eat so we can have...dessert."

Not needing to be told twice James tucked in. His night was getting better and better, not bad he thought. "Ok." Thinking if Kelly did, it would look better considering the question he was going to put to her. Dessert however was something he was keenly looking forward to.
