A Generous Offer

Sam was enjoying her time off, of little that she got off it. She'd finished all the reassignments, noted down all the certifications that new additions obtained and ran through the induction cycle with them. Most of them seemed to take it in, a few though she wondered if they paid attention at all. In any event they now had teams to get to know, which for some of the younger joiners seemingly straight out of college into the service would be an experience to remember.

Sam was at her desk just reading up on recent news as she liked to keep up to date on things even if they had no real import to her. He browsing of the news was interrupted by a communications signal from what the marines call the DP, or Director Personnel. Usually when he called it was not a welcome call because he was the one that would pull you from an assignment and ship you off to some long distance remote place that saw no action what so ever.

She brushed her hair behind her ear before opening the link. "Captain." She was expecting the General. "What can I do for you?"

"Major, the General sends his regards, he is unable to speak to you himself due to being called away unexpectedly. I am Captain Chaucer, his Executive Assistant."

"A pleasure." Samantha spoke greeting him.

"Major, the General has been reviewing the list of holes we have in our current outfit of deployment. A position has come up that following a review of suitable candidates as it's been decided that you should be offered the Executive Officer position for the 23rd Marine Detatchment."

"But I already am an Executive Officer Captain, why a lateral move?" Samantha asked.

"Colonel Ballart who currently commands is due to retire at the end of the year. Your move would be with the understanding that you would replace him at that time."

"I see." It was alot to think over. "How much time do I have to consider?"

"A few days. The General will want to speak to you himself at some point but asked me to relay the offer for you to consider in the mean time."

That was a margin of relief but still, a big decision to be made. "Does Colonel Frost know of this offer?"

"No, but you are free to discuss it with him if you want to."

"Thank you Captain." Samantha replied and the link closed with a nod. She then wondered what to do because she enjoyed her time on the Dreadnought and made many new friends, she was comfortable here. Was she ready for a command of her own?

First thing though was she had to speak to Jack, get his opinion on things.
