Mission:
The Emerald Road
Location: Various
Will at first was sat on the Bridge as the ship hurtled towards the location it had, they knew that they would probably be running into hostile forces. Nobody liked uninvited guests especially if they just so happened to be Starfleet. With that in mind Will wanted some peace for his own mind and decided to get some. His first port of call was the Tactical office, if they were going to get into a fight he wanted to at least pay a visit and not only be reassuring but also gain a level of understanding of where his department stood in terms of readiness. He knew he could have read the latest report, or called in but he was tired of being cooped up on the Bridge or his Ready Room.
He understood the impact that people seeing him out and about could have, he often felt such when he was a junior officer and he saw the Captain walking around the vessel. He remembered back to that moment and saying that he'd be one of those officers. He was greeted by those passing by with words or smiles but it didn't take long for him to reach the tactical office so when the doors opened and he stepped in there came little surprise to him when he saw the lightly shocked or mild surprise on the faces of those gathered.
"Commander Bawden?" Will asked as he gave the substantial room a look around. A Lieutenant pointed towards the back of the room and a pair of doors. "Thank you."
Will was just about to walk in when the doors opened and an individual walked out and into him.
"Umph...Sorry." Mark looked up from his PADD to see the Commodore. "Sir, um....er..what brings you here? I would have come to you." Mark finished feeling kinda dumb having not looked where he was going and happened to walk right into the Commanding Officer. "Come in."
"It's alright Commander, I needed to get off the Bridge." Will spoke as he followed the man back into the office.
"So what brings you down this way sir?" Mark asked, his hand out to one of the seats in front of the desk. "Drink?"
"Water, thank you." Will replied taking a seat and getting comfortable. "Honestly, I wanted to do a walk around considering the dangers we are walking into. I don't know what to expect when we arrive at our destination but I doubt it will be a warm reception."
"When do we ever get a warm reception?" Mark replied as he handed the Commodore a glass of water and a Coffee for himself. He knew Ayla would be unhappy him drinking Coffee especially since he was trying to stop as it kept him up at night and naturally, her too.
"How are things down here?" Will asked, knowing he could have easily read the report to find that out himself.
"Well, she's no Dreadnought but as far as weapons go this ship is teaming with them for her size and the MVAM, that is a neat little trick." Mark answered with a smile before sipping his drink.
"I've heard about it." Will started. "Not actually seen it done but I understand its much like saucer separation."
"To a point." Mark replied. "The Indefatigable is capable of splitting into three tactically able, warp capable sections which can operate independently of each other or in unison in a tactical situation. Its all automated and each section can be piloted or controlled by the computer for coordinated attack patterns and because of the separation we gain additional phasers arrays as they are not covered up by being separated."
"What kind of punishment can they take as separate units?" Will asked.
"Each section is ablative armoured, even the sections normally hidden when the ship is whole. They can take a beating like any other ship but too much and well, we know the outcome of that." Mark answered sipping his drink again. "The idea is to overwhelm a target with fire from multiple vectors in a sustained attack. They did it the Romulan Warbird when Starfleet recaptured the prototype."
"How will battle damage effect reintegration?" Will put forward before sipping his water.
"With the process completely automated the system runs a check on all MVAM sections to make sure a clean connection can be made. If it can't then it wont happen and the system will flag why and show you." Mark answered glad that he looked up on the system earlier in the morning.
"We may need it when we arrive." Will spoke as he considered the state of affairs they found themselves in. "I have little doubt word has been sent we are on our way considering the party we are going to crash. I just wanted to be sure we were ready for a fight if it came to one."
"We are ready, the Indefatigable seemed to me as if she rolled off the production line. Diagnostics were all in the green, we have a complete tactical loadout of torpedoes. Just say the word and we will show them what this ship can do." Mark could see the unspoken words between the lines, who could blame the man for how he was feeling, he knew himself when Ayla was taken from him.
"Good, well I wont take up any more time." Will spoke as he stood up, glass in hand.
"Welcome anytime sir." Mark answered standing up himself and walking to the door with the Commodore.
