Mission:
The Emerald Road
Location: Main Engineering
James was walking back from the supplies hold carrying with him a handful or iso chips. He'd discovered that these chips were more efficient than those on the Dreadnought, he suspected this was because of the high level or automation the ship had installed within it that the enhanced chips were needed. It got him thinking if he could similarly upgrade the Dreadnought's chips or replace them with ones like the Indefatigable. When he got back to his desk he began his review and analysis of the ships comparing design specifications, function and outputs.
Having just come from the Chief Tactical Officer, Will now wanted to see his Chief Engineer. He was of mixed feelings about this as he had heard that James had put considerable effort into fine tuning the Dreadnought only then to be taken from it. Now if the reports were accurate, the Indefatigable was pristine, which no doubt left the Engineer with little to do. However will wanted to make sure that everything was in its place, everything had its order because he knew as soon as they arrived things were going to turn chaotic.
Finding the Chief was easy, the only man at a workbench wearing what appeared to be some goggles of some sort. "Lt. Bradshaw."
"Yes, what is it?" James spoke, his focus still on the chips. "Can't you see I'm busy?"
Will smiled, amused almost. "I'll let the Commodore know, is there a better time to see you?" Will returned trying to lighten the mood that was to follow.
James looked up, not aware of the view he was giving with the goggles on giving his eyes that massive hillarious look to them because he'd not taken them off. When he did though he realised the mass of red he saw was in fact the Commodore. "Sir, I'm sorry I was just..."
"It's alright Lieutenant, I could see you were busy." Will spoke putting the man at ease. "Anything worth noting?"
"Actually, these chips are more efficient than those on the Dreadnought. I'm doing checks to determine if that is due to the level of automation installed on this class of ship or if these chips could be applied to the Dreadnought when we return to her." James spoke as he placed the goggles on the bench.
"Any potential?" Will asked as he looked over the technical spread before him.
"Had only just started to be honest." James replied.
"I came by to see how things are going, we are due to arrive soon and I wanted to talk with you about the status of the ship." Will explained, granting insight to the man why he was even present.
"Honestly sir, I had to dig deep to even find this to do. The Indy had been yarded for a while, tests, diagnostics, trials. Its like they grabbed her before the paint had even dried and started tinkering." James explained clearly displeased that with such a high level of automation, there was in fact very little to do.
"Well, I am confident when we arrive at our destination that will change." Will replied sadly as he knew it would be a fight, one no doubt against many. "We are expecting a tactical engagement with numbers unknown, having spoken to Chief Tactical we may engage the MVAM system."
"I'll admit I'm keen to see that in operation. Never worked with or on it myself but I was impressed by its tactical application when the study was completed by SFCE." James spoke eagerly about the system.
"While I share the view, combat is not what I had in mind for its deployment, sadly however sometimes we don't always get what we want." Will commented. "I won't keep you any longer, just be ready by the time we arrive because I suspect it will be a hostile arrival."
"Count on it sir." James replied with a reassuring nod. He'd already put measures in place, people knew what they had to do and were ready and prepared to do it.
