Mission:
The Emerald Road
Location: Current Ship
Constantine kept the ship at warp 9 till a warning light began to flash. She glanced at it and thought for a second what it meant. Just as she was taking corrective action to allow the Warp Core reactor to cool down along with the relevant systems and conduit s of pushing high energy through them to sustain the high rate of speed, another light lit up.
She smirked and her expression went back neutral as she slowed the ship down to a sedate Warp 6.5. The maximum speed to travel at to allow systems to cool down. Once that was accomplished, she access the incoming message.
It was orders from the Commodore to vary the rate of speeds of travel to keep things cool back in engineering and the ship propulsion.
Just as she finished reading, the On duty Officer gave the commands of what she just read. "Aye Aye sir." She responded as she rolled her eyes as none could see her face. She began to set up an automated schedule of sprints at Warp 9 and dropping to Warp 6.5.
She calculated each sprint at Warp 9 and Warp 6.5 to allow periods of cooldowns. She scowled as each progressive sprint would have to shortened to allow longer cool down to maintain efficiency of the ship power and propulsion.
Once the calculations were done. She sent them off to the Officer of the Watch, Commodore and Chief of Engineering. Hoping they would approve as this was a long run across the galaxy to final destination. Plus it would give Engineering scheduled notice when the ship was doing its high speed run.
Since the ship was on cooldown from the first sprint, she had some breathing room. She kept an eye on the red flashing warning light of systems overheating, turn to yellow. Then after a few long minutes the flashing warning light turned steady green, then the automated schedule programming for the second Warp-9 sprint hit.
Constantine summoned her back up pilot. "Gonna be a long shift," She murmured to him. "Yo-yo speed run. I will need wakey wakey juice. Preferring coffee, black."
"Definitely. Be right back." Her back up pilot spoke and scampered off.
She stood up and did a few isometric exercises to keep the blood flowing and a high level of mental alertness. One slip up or miscalculation, this will end in a high speed shooting fireball, scattered over vast distances. She sat down feeling revived. Her school correspondence courses forgotten as she quickly saved her progress with that. Then she focused on the job at hand.
