Training of the Fallen

Posted on Sat Aug 11th, 2018 @ 8:56am by Colonel Jason "Jack" Frost

688 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: The Emerald Road
Location: Marine Deck
Timeline: After meeting the XO.

Zan escorted the party of pilots to the marine deck, he could hear the grumbling behind him between them and stopped, turned to face them. "Perhaps now you guys see that top marks are not all that matters here, I should warn you though, cross the Colonel and he will stomp you into the ground." He wondered if the Colonel would get the same stick he got when they arrived. As if the warning given to them by the First Officer was not enough they now had the Colonel to contend with and that in a way amused Zan.

"Isn't this a little over the top CAG?" One pilot complained.

"Rewind that to the point you walked onto my Hanger deck, walked all over my teams then tried the same thing with me. Wasn't that a little over the top?" Zan shot back. "Don't complain to me about the state of the bed when you were the ones that put it together."

A short Turbolift ride later and they found themselves on the Marine deck. Zan was known because of his relationship with Amanda, so he was greeted but the pilots in red....not so much. "Colonel Frost around?"

"His office." One of the marines spoke with a smile. "The reds?"

"Oh, new friends." Zan spoke in a way that the word friends was not as the word implies. "Thanks."

The doors to Jack's office opened and another marine walked out, Zan caught the doors before they could close again. "Colonel, got a minute?"

Jack looked up, it was not unusual, just infrequent that Zan would grace the deck unless it was for Amanda. "Don't tell me you have miss placed Amanda?"

Zan laughed. "No no, besides if I did there is a lot of green out there that would rebrief me if I did."

"Not just out there." Jack joked. "So what can I do for you?" He saw the group of officers in red behind Zan.

"Extra training." Zan handed over the PADD, on it contained the Commanders orders.

"I see." Jack spoke as he looked over the report, both from Zan and the First Officer. "Attitude adjustments then." Jack looked up to see Zan nodding and the other officers standing there silently.

"So, I can leave them in capable hands?" Zan spoke up.

"Most certainly." Jack replied. "Gentlemen, welcome to the Marine deck, here is where you will work with my men, they will train you. Don't think because you wear that uniform they will go easy on you. CAG here knows from experience. They will make you feel exactly how you have made others feel and make no mistake, they don't take kindly to fleet officers down here so don't for a second think you have an upper hand in any way shape or form."

"Well, introductions done I will leave you with them." Zan said as he stood up, not wanting to get in the way. "

"We should catch up sometime." Jack said as he watched the CAG move to the door.

"Dinner, bring the Mrs." Zan spoke as he exited the door pointing to Jack then a thumbs up and a smile.

Jack watched the door closed. "So, come with me gentlemen, let me introduce you to the troops." Jack smiled knowing this was going to be fun. He took the group of pilots to the Quartermaster, if there was one person you did not want to cross, it was the Quartermaster.

"Quartermaster, I have some officers here that I think could be of service to you."

The large man looked at the Colonel then at the gathered fleet officers. "Colonel?"

Jack handed over the PADD and let the QM read it, he could see on his face the expression changing as the details sank in.

"Leave them with me." Was all the QM said.

"Excellent." Jack smiled. "Gentlemen, I leave you in good hands." Jack then walked out with a grin on his face, he knew what was going to happen, the QM didn't take crap from nobody and those pilots would be in for a shock if they tried anything.
