Samantha's Quarter
After a minute Samantha managed to sob, she recalled the last thing she said to her mother, it was an argument, didn't even say good bye and ended the link. She would never have a chance to right that wrong and now will always regret it. She felt alone, cold, empty.
Like part of her was gone.
With shaking hands she typed a message to Annabelle.
I NEED YOU NOW!!!!!
********
Annabelle heard the chime of an incoming message late in the night as she was just luxating in a warm bath. Bubbles up to her chin. The soothing hot water caressing her skin and soft fuzz of her favorite wine. Reliving the way Sammy moved. The time they spent together.
-Beep! Beep!-
She growled as the insistent chiming of the announcement of the incoming message. She stood up from the tub with bubbles and warm water sluiced off her body. She grabbed a towel and did a quick swipe to get the majority of the water and bubbles off her. Dropping the towel onto the floor and stepping on it to dry off her feet as she padded through her darkened quarters with minimal lighting for safety.
-Beeeeep!-
Even as she moved angerly and prepping all sorts of nasty remark, her curiosity was aroused. She punched on the computer console that was nagging her to answer.
She paused at seeing the message. She looked puzzled as her mind raced through all of her friends that would need her presence. Completely overlooking Samantha as she was a tough Marine. But the message was unsigned.
~Gotta be a practical joke! ~ She thought wanting return back to the bubble bath. But then as she was curious to whom had sent it. She tapped in a few commands and eyes widen that the message was from Samantha.
She rushed back through her quarters, grabbing her fluffy pink bathrobe and putting it on. Sliding her feet into fluffy bunny slippers. She fled her quarters with her hair still damp and rushed through the ship. She wondered what Samantha, A tough woman and Marine, be calling her in the middle of the night.
Arriving at Samantha's quarters, she barged right in, having access to her quarters, just as Samantha had with hers, up in the civilian sector of the ship. But they always hit the announcer to alert those inside before just barging in.
"Sammy! You okay?!" Annabelle yelled out with concern, hoping that Samantha wasn't out doing something stupid. As it never came to her to ask the ship's AI the where-about of Samantha.
Sobbing, whimpering came from the bedroom, all about as far as she'd made it from her table having let what she read wash over her and into her at the loss she just suffered. She had only one person to turn to, the only one she wanted or needed right now.
Hearing the whimpering from the bedroom, Annabelle moved quickly to see Samantha on her bed. "Hey Love. what's got you in a puddle of tears?" Voice full of concern as she laid down next to Samantha, facing her.
Sam had explained through breath and tear that her Mother had passed away. It tore at her, she didn't think it would hurt so much but it did. Things could have been better between them she knew, she could have called them more often, wrote them, anything and yet she didn't....now it was too late.
Annabelle was at loss for words as she listened to Samantha pour out her heart. She reached out her arms, then pulled Samantha close and hugged her. Offering comfort in a simple hug, letting her know she cared for her, beyond the physical attraction she held for her tough Marine woman she held.
"Mothers will always love their children, no matter the words that had passed between them. Or the good deeds forgotten. At least you had the time with her and shown through little things while together that you love her." Annabelle murmured softly as she tucked Samantha head onto her shoulder and held her.
Sam's hold on Annabelle was firm, perhaps too firm in some places thats to her marine training. Her world seemed to have been shattered, now she wouldn't get to say goodbye to her Mother, all now able to remember the fights they had, disagreements and disapproving remarks about her lifes choices. The tears continued to flow, Annabelle's attire getting wet and also wrinkled from Sam's hold. A hold that secured to her the one thing keeping her life together and worthy.
Annabelle held her, making no demands and letting Samantha ride out her emotional storm. Offering her comfort with her embrace as they laid together. Her mind raced with thoughts maybe she could help, once Samantha fell asleep.
Sobs gave way to panted breathing, sniffling and wet cheeks remained as she came to and calmed herself. Annabelle was right of course, Sam had come to accept that ever since Annabelle had come along things had only looked up and while she never expected herself to like women that way, she wouldn't change the now for anything. "I'm sorry, you were probably busy or asleep."
"Just a bubble bath." Annabelle murmured as if it wasn't important, yet at the time was all on her minds from having a rigorous day, dealing with various morale issues. "Don't even think of it." Giving Samantha a quick kiss on the tip of her nose.
A bubble bath, the ultimate relaxation. Some candles, gentle music, soothing water. "Sounds great, sorry I ruined it." Sam wiped her face with one hand then the next, not letting Annabelle go.
"Maybe that's what you need." Annabelle spoke softly. "We could share it. And have a little remembrance time to reflect on all the good times you and your mother shared. So you can lay your mother to rest and give yourself the peace you seek."
"Yeah, alright." Maybe a bubble bath would help, the presence of her lover, the stone in her life that she used to keep her grounded in her emotional storm. She knew it was late but Sam didn't care, she needed Annabelle and the comforts that simple presence offers.
