The Waiting

Mission: The Emerald Road
Location: Bridge. U.S.S. Indefatigable

Will once the Orion Corvette had been disabled had ordered the ship to move along side to dock with, from there the marines would board the ship, security would guard his own and he would get Vash back. Part of him wanted to be part of the boarding team but he knew his First Officer would have nothing of it.

With what appeared to be the completion of his mission within his grasp it gave him thought for pause as to the ramifications he'd face later. Starfleet had given him orders true but just how much of the blow back would they be taking? It was very easy to give someone 'at any cost' order but when it came down to it, there was always a personal cost be it command or record. It was hard for him to sit there doing nothing while those under his command risked all. Never ask someone to do something you wouldn't be willing to do yourself. Something his Father would frequently say during his youth.

Vash would not be in a good way, he knew that but was he really prepared for the entirety of what that meant? Or would include?. As with any partner would he wanted to protect, keep safe, brave ideals in today's day and age of technologies where anything can happen within an instant but to be taken within the grounds of SFC....where was he then?

In a way he felt a bit like his Chief of Security, when the Doctor was trapped in the isolation lab. Helpless. All he could do was sit in his chair and wait, hope for the best in more ways than one and go home the victor. He knew that he would have plenty of time to write up his rather lengthy report for Command, also knowing they were going to ask lots of difficult questions about his actions, the steps he took and the outcomes. It was easy to be given a free hand and act, but the bill at the end would need paying at some point. He could only hope that Command would see that the actions he took were consistent with the orders they gave and that they would be able to handle any diplomatic blow back his actions caused.

"Helm, keep an eye open for any sudden movements they make. Mark, keep an eye on sensors, I want to know the moment we detect any other ships coming in to help them." Will spoke already preparing his next hand of cards to play if he needed them.

He thought about when he first saw Vash, the times thereafter, the conversations, the moments shared. How far things had come and yet things left unsaid. For so long he'd been a career officer, 'married' to the service, dedicated his life to it and at the expense of so much, now it was in danger and he was depending on others to make it safe again. That last bit didn't sit well with him.

When the time was right he'd have a talk with Vash, say the things that needed to be said, not putting it off till tomorrow, not hiding behind duty, say them. He was confident the crew would not judge, most had families or loved ones of their own but there was always the risk that some might feel that the Commanding Officer of a ship would be distracted by emotional attachments.

All he could do now however was wait, hope and maybe, just maybe if he was lucky, exact some form of payback on those responsible.
