Mission:
The Emerald Road
Location: Hanger Bay
Timeline: Pre-Boarding
Zan was standing next to his fighter, one of the only 3 on board. They had managed to squeeze them in by sacrificing transports like the Argos but 3 was hardly a flight of fighters like he was used to back on the Dreadnought. Each of the pilots were ready to deploy at a moments notice, the EWO's (Electronic Warfare Officers) were also ready, one already seated while the other two including Zan's stood beside the craft.
"So whats the deal with this Vash girl anyway?" One of the EWO's asked.
Zan looked up from his PADD hearing the question, the question itself raised the possibility that they were not of the transferred Dreadnought crew.
"What does it matter?" Zan asked.
"Well, I mean we are out here on a rescue mission, don't you want to know who she is?"
"I know who she is, shes a member of the Dreadnought crew and important to some people, a friend to others." Zan remarked.
"Ah yes, the vaunted Dreadnought crew, you guys walk in here like you own the place, push everyone around, put us all at risk and for what. One Orion?" The EWO spoke.
"I'm going to ignore you blatant sarcasm, this once. But I would be vary careful who you say that too. Many of the Dreadnought crew have served together for over 10 years, we are like family. The difference is some will actually come at you, others will wait, me...well I'm the CAG on one of the largest ships in Starfleet, you are just an EWO on a test bed starship that had spent months in dock doing nothing but looking pretty with her fresh paint still unstratched and I bet you and/or it, have yet to see any ACTUAL combat until this mission, and I don't mean mock battles or shooting at rocks....just in case you were thinking it."Zan retorted, somewhat losing his patience with his officers attitude.
"All I'm saying is things were fine before you guys rocked up. Peachy, cozy."
"Well then you are relieved, go park yourself in the rec room, make yourself cozy in there." Zan ordered. Then turned to the pilot. "Get the standby ready."
"Wow wow easy hang up there, All im sayi...."
"All I am hearing is how your cozy, lax routine has been disrupted by a crew ACTUALLY doing something, who have served together, fought together, bled and in some cases died. I've lost pilots with more skill in one hair than you have in your entire body." Zan spoke angrily. "I will be glad to get off this tub after this mission, you can have your laid back, do nothing routine again." Zan felt his EWO put his hand on his shoulder.
Taking the hint Zan walked to his fighter, crawled in and prepared the craft and himself for take off by initiating start up routines. He wouldn't engage the engines until they were needed but no harm in making sure she was good, proper and ready.
"Whats his deal?" The scolded EWO asked.
"His deal, is that hes right. When we put on the uniform we all know the risks that come with it. Some, as he's pointed out like the feet up do nothing approach. Others like him, he's out there doing something. Hes been in combat, crash landed, nearly froze to death in a cockpit frame fracture. He's seen things you wont from an armchair." The voice was gentle, not confrontational but also explaining.
"Yeah, things happen, changes mess things up. But if one of your crew was abducted, are you gonna sit back and do nothing or rally up with the crew and do something?" Zan EWO spoke. "That Orion you so dismissively chided is a member of my crew, him up there may not be your CAG, but on this ship he's thee CAG which means you do as he says."
"He's not going to let me fly is he?"
"Its arm chair fly boys like you that give the rest of us a bad rep, I wouldn't even want to fly with you." He looked at the pilot. "You have my sympathies." Then he walked off to climb into the seat behind Zan.
"Rebriefed?" Zan spoke mid checks.
"I think the message sank in."
"Unfortunate for him if it didn't. Be sad if the Commodore heard his remarks."
Both then chuckled, amused at the thought. "You going to write him up?"
Zan smirked. "Not worth the time it takes. Explains why hes still an Ensign though."
"Hey, I'm an Ensign."
"Yeah but you are actually worth something." Zan chuckled back.
"Awwww, so you do care..."
"Let's not go that far, you are good for conversation but if your taste in women is as good as the rest of you. I have my worries." Zan added.
"Ouch, red card."
