Mission: What Stalks The Night

The 15 minute nap she'd had, had done wonders for both her energy level and her calmness at the meeting that she was due to have. A comm message to report to Admiral Hague's office had her both nervous and excited. She'd known Thomas Hague since she'd been 15 and at that time he'd been a Lieutenant Commander. For most of that time had been crushing hard on him. It was a schoolgirl thing that she'd been very carefully suppressing since she'd been a child though she suspected that he knew. She'd always thought the was breathtakingly handsome, but it seemed form the photographs in the room that age had only improved him. If she wasn't being thoroughly taken care of by Ediras - she'dve been panting like a bitch in heat. Inwardly she shook herself and bit the inside of her lip until she tasted iron. She pressed the chime, and waited to be admitted to the office.

"Admiral Hague"

"Commander Yashui, please come in. Can I get you a drink?" He'd not greeted her by her first name, which meant this conversation at least was official in nature. The butterflies in her stomach immediately fluttered away.

"No thank you sir, if I have any more to drink I might float away."

The admiral's soft laugh made her smile in response and he rose from behind the desk. Anika raised her chin slightly to look up at the taller man. His eyes were amused and she noticed; now that he was standing that his desk duty had not had a good effect on his physique. Part of her was disappointed that the beautiful man she remembered had not kept himself fit. Even despite the appealing touch of grey at the temples...Ah well, her schoolgirl crush could die just as was appropriate. He stepped around the sculpted black glass desk, with the sigil of the United Federation of Planets inscribed on the side facing her. Admiring the sheen of sun on the black glass making parts of it glow a brilliant violet while the darker parts seemed to absorb all the light in the room.

"Beautiful"

"I find it to be as well, that's why I keep it"

"Sorry sir, I just..."

"I remember your penchant for art Commander, don't concern yourself with it." He handed her a PADD that she took and began to read. They were making her an offer, to basically be an informant for Starfleet Operations in exchange for a command of a Oberth class vessel, several years down the line. The Oberth was more than a little insulting, and her ears started to burn as she read and then reread the PADD in front of her.

"Is this a joke?"

"No joke commander, why would you suggest such a thing?"

"Tell me why I am being made such an offer" she growled through clenched teeth.

"Vice Admiral Matthews has put his faith in the now Captain Hood, but several members of the rest of the Admiralty remain at least somewhat unconvinced of his actual good intentions. I thought due to our history you might be willing to..."

"Our History?! How dare you suggest that my oaths can be swayed so easily. These people are my family! You think after all we've been through that my loyalty is so easily purchased? I earned my place on one of the premier ships in the fleet, and I will not give that up for some half assed reward based only on your word that I'll get it. " Her words were getting louder and she was just on the edge of yelling at the admiral who was across from her. It was clear he'd been expecting her to accept the offer in a misguided thought that she'd do anything to get a command. Anika wasn't like most officers and she wanted to earn it, by no ones work but her own. "I want a command, but I do not want one in so underhanded a fashion! I'll be an XO the rest of my life before I pervert my oaths to the fleet. I am not interested in being your CI and I am certainly not interested in that...that garbage scow masquerading as a Starfleet vessel."

His eyebrows got higher and higher during her rant, and when she called the ship a garbage scow, he had to suppress his outright laughter at both her choice of words and her outrage. She threw the PADD on the desk, and turned on her heel and walked out of his office without waiting for dismissal or permission. As soon as she was out in the garden surrounded by freshfaced cadets, she rubbed her hand over her face ending the gesture by covering her still open mouth.

"Oh what the shit did I just do..."
