Mission:
What Stalks The Night
Location: Marine Deck
Samantha was packed and ready to go, she didn't have much but she liked it that way. What ever she had on the Dreadnought was boxed and placed into secure storage for collection later only she'd not bothered with it because until now she didn't know where it was going. As soon as she got the order to report to the Valkyrie she messaged the storage complex to transport her things to the ship. It was mostly clothes that she had gained during her outings with Annabelle. Just the thought of her got Sam smiling.
Anna was something else, she didn't judge Sam because of what she did or because she was new to the same sex arrangement but she wouldn't change it for the world. The two had spent a lot of time alone together, in and out of the bed, at the beach and secretly enjoy the disappointed looks on some men's faces when they realised that Sam, was not interested.
Standing at the mirror Sam made sure she was immaculate, even if Annabelle made that difficult at times with her little touches, brushes and kisses to her cheek as she made sure her uniform was in order. "I've contacted storage already, our things will be beamed up today, we will be informed which cargo bay they are sent to." Sam told Anna since some of her things were also in storage too.
There was not word yet about when the civilian compliment of the Dreadnought's crew would be allowed to board the ship. It was understood that serving officers and ratings would be allowed to board, but Sam would find out when she got on board. This did give Anna time to hit the shops for a few things to brighten up what ever quarters they would be assigned.
"Ok. I think I'm ready." Sam said with a sigh, now or never time. "I'll message you when I get on board and find out where our quarters are." Sam spoke as she walked over to Anna, gave her a kiss, a smile and then walked out for the transport station.
*** Marine Barracks ***
When Sam got to the Barracks, secretly having to use the computer to guide her, unknowning that Jack had to do the same she walk into and saw a large quantity of marines gathered. They were doing routine things like checking gear, eating and talking. Sam was just a little overwhelmed by it, not at all what she was expected to see when she got on board, or the amount of marines present. Part of her wondered if she'd walked into a training hall at Boot Camp.
She was not standing there long before a marine female came beside her, sharply turned out, marine like. "Major Snyder, ma'am. Corporal Rosie Clarke, I've been assigned as your assistant."
"I see." Sam replied turning her attention to the Corporal. "Is Colonel Frost on board yet?"
"Yes ma'am, he arrived not long ago and departed to meet with the Captain."
Sam nodded, that was expected and would no doubt meet with Jack later when he returned. "Ok Corporal, assist me."
Rosie then took Sam on a tour of the marine deck, Quartermasters office, secure storage, munitions lockers, practice range, galley, gym, billet areas where most would sleep. Rosie assisted Sam in palm print security for the secure access areas as they came to them and ended up inside her office which overlooked the barrack area. She'd secretly wanted an office like Jack's on the Dreadnought and now she had one just.....bigger than before.
Rosia turned on all the consoles, the holographic table, showed Sam all the little toys and features. "So, what exactly is it that you do Rosie?" Sam asked. "I mean, actually do. I've had an assistant before but that was mostly clerical, cup of Coffee every now and then, that kind of thing."
Rosie went on to tell Sam about her duties for Sam and what Sam heard was impressive. Rosie would essentially be a shield for Sam, a barrier from distractions. Her duties were mostly clerical but they were also proactive in assisting Sam in her duties as she could, clearances permitting.
"Ok." Sam spoke mildly shocked at the extent and apparent devotion shown by Rosie to her duties. "So I would like to see records of our fire team leaders, and officers based on combat experience and certification, by rank. I'd also like to see any disciplinary records of the troops if there are any."
Sam saw Rosie making notes on the PADD she was carrying without looking at it, Rosie was obviously a touch typer, a trait Sam couldn't fully master. It was impressive though Seeing Rosie work that way and Sam was of the idea that if it worked for her, why interfere. "Also can you inform me when Colonel Frost arrives, I'd like to meet him." Sam hoped that Jack was able to brief her on something, Anything.
"Oh, Rosie." Sam suddenly spoke just as Rosie was about to leave. "I don't know where my quarters are, or if I have been assigned any. I have some things coming from secure storage to the Cargo Bay and my partner Annabelle Fontaine is waiting word."
"I'll chase that up for you first ma'am."
"Thank you Rosie." Sam watched her leave, amazed by the woman's efficiency. Part of her didn't want to become dependant on Rosie, but part of her wanted to make sure she made use of Rosie's apparent abilities and not let them go to waste.
