Mission:
What Stalks The Night
Location: Sickbay
Sat in his office Xavier was going through some routine medication reports of some of the few civilian crew members on board. Even though it was a required task it was however boring and he found himself reaching for the Coffee more and more as the minutes, 10, 15 then 30 went by.
When the Nurse arrived and informed him that a Lieutenant D'Aramitz was next on his list of appointments he downed the rest of his beverage and made sure he had a PaDD available, her records displayed up on and a quick review to see what was her past was.
Everything seemed to be in order and routine, last few medicals came back in the clear and all he had to do was wait, assess and clear her for duty.
As she was being escorted to the biobed, Amélie was all laughs and smiles, not at all the likely patient one would normally find in sickbay. She had exchanged several jokes an some small talk with the nurse who had done her preliminary evaluations.
Everything was very much as she had expected it to be, at least this far in to her assignment. Now it just remained to see how it continued. From her own experience she knew people tended to shy away when they found out she was a counselor.
At the appointed time Xavier walked out of his office, PaDD in hand to the biobed where the Lieutenant sat. "Lt. D'Aramitz." He hoped he was saying that right. "Sorry if I've mispronounced that." He added. "I see we have you down for a pre joining medical." Xavier could see she was not long on board, her time stamp within 24 hours ago. "So, anything you want to tell me, aches, pains, troubles, headaches?"
Amélie shook her head and smiled genially. "Sorry to disappoint you but I had a medical less than four months ago and I feel better than ever. No aches, pains, troubles or headaches. I sleep better than ever and my appetite has never been greater. All in all, I would give myself a perfect bill of health," she said with an easy grin.
"A Counselor and a Doctor, well this should make my job a lot easier." Xavier smiled as he began his tests. The results of which came back just as both had expected, in the clear and well within the norms. "I see you are married, any illnesses, troubles or issues with the Husband's health?"
There was another shake of her head as she smiled again. "No, he's fighting fit and perfectly healthy, much to my disgust, some days I expect he'll well outlive me," Amélie said with a polite smile.
"So, what can you tell me about the people on this ship?" Amélie asked warmly. "I mean, you're the Chief Medical Officer, we're going to be working closely together, what can you tell me?"
"Unfortunately, not much." Xavier answered. "Not all of the original Dreadnought crew are coming to the ship, and with a ship this size, over 6,000 people, I've yet to meet even a small percentage of them." A challenge that while Xavier was looking forward to, knew it would be a challenge.
"The ship is huge, I feel like I get lost every time I walk out of my quarters,' Amélie said with a laugh as she sat relatively still, letting him do his job. "Have many of the senior staff come across?" she asked curiously.
"I believe all of the senior staff have, or at least that is what I am lead to believe. Not many have reported in for pre deployment checks yet so its hard to say who is and whos not on board or assigned on board yet." Xavier replied.
"Well I guess I'll find out who's who soon enough," Amélie said with a smile. "So, do I pass my medical? Everything all good?"
"Absolutely, everything checked out fine, blood pressure is a little high but we can knock that down to new assignment, new ship and such. But aside from that, you are fit and ready for duty." Xavier smiled as he tapped the display on his little console declaring her fit for duty.
"Good to know," Amélie laughed. "So I guess we're going to be working together in the future. Being honest, I'm rather nervous about being on a ship this size and with so many people."
"Welcome to my world. The old ship was big but this one much more so. Though the larger staff is nice I suspect I will be kept busy." Xavier spoke. "Well, I wont keep you, I'll forward this to the First Officer. You should check in with her at some point."
"Thank you Sir," Amélie said with a smile as she slid off the bio bed and smoothed the front of her uniform. "I appreciate your time, and I guess I'll see you around?"
"No doubt about it." Since the two would work closely especially with injuries there needed acceptance, that was her job, his was to mend the physical injury.
As she headed toward the door, she paused momentarily, glancing back at him and offering one more smile. "Call me Amélie," she said easily before she disappeared out into the corridor. Next apparently she would be needing to see the First Officer.
