Mission:
What Stalks The Night
Location: Ready Room
William sipped down another cup of Coffee as the cup of the previous sat abandoned on the surface of his table. Around him shuttles were making runs on board, there was a security screen around the ship which he expected, a ring of ships to keep civilian vessels from getting too close. He sighed as he wondered what the future held, he'd yet to hear anything from Vash on if she was joining him on board or if they kept her in hospital despite his best attempts to get her out.
As he peered out the window to the rear of his Ready Room looking over the spine of the ship as it seemed span on to an open back with the hangers acting as wings of a sort. Fitting of the name he thought as he saw shuttles and other craft docking and departing at regular intervals. It was not long after he was just starting to get lost in thought, about what he was not sure about, when his desktop computer chirped. He pressed the button. "Yes."
"Sir, incoming signal from Command."
"I'll take it here." Will spoke pushing the old cup of Coffee aside and sitting down. He watched as the screen came to life with the logo of Starfleet Command then be replaced by a Commodore, but with all the time he'd spent at Headquarters it was one he had not seen before. Regardless, his was his superior. "Commodore. What can I do for you sir?"
"Captain, I'm Commodore Marco Stein. I have here your orders." What caught Will's attention was the encryption level indicator in the corner of the screen.
Will while seated felt some relief sweep over him, orders, at least. Yet in the other hand he couldn't help but be slightly reserved since it was only his last set of orders he was given that saw so much chaos come from it. "Of course, I've been hoping to receive them."
"The Valkyrie is currently taking on key scientific and medical supplies for transit to Velara III. Our outpost there is conducting advanced medical and scientific studies aimed at combating bio-weapons and contagions that we have been encountering over recent time. A sample of what infected your previous command was sent there for study." Stein gave a moment of pause.
"This facility is highly classified, we have arranged for a pre determined course pattern which will lead you to the facility and throw off anyone following. The entire path is monitored by high yield sensor relays, if you are followed then we will know and can act accordingly. I can not stress to you enough that you follow the course set, any deviation from it will alert us." Steins could be seen pressing buttons on his table.
Will saw the comm link shrink to just the top left corner, most of the screen was now showing the route to be taken. "As you can see, there are several check in points, with this data package will be security codes, as you can see there are two. One for all clear, another for under duress or trouble. The supplies you are taking on consist of medical equipment both physical and medication types. Engineering equipment which includes machinery, fuel, and secure bio storage containers for samples you will be taking with you. Dr Patrovski has been sent a complete list of any materials, he will confirm they are safe for transport."
Will made sure to check in with the Doctor. While he was a starship captain he wanted to make sure he knew that what he was transporting was not only safe, but that there was zero risk of contamination or risk to the crew. "I understand."
"Upon arrival, you will hail the colony, transfer the supplies and exit the area along this new route." Will watched as a new route in a different colour was drawn on the map. "Any questions?"
"Sir, the Valkyrie is huge. If this mission has such a secretive nature would not a smaller and faster ship be more prudent?" Will asked.
"Normally yes, but, you are also taking on board several hundred litres of Bio-mimetic gel. With a quantity of this size and the capability of the Valkyrie it was deemed a safe enough measure to transport a larger quantity of the gel." Stein paused again. "Only yourself, First Officer, Chief Security Officer and Chief Medical Officer will have access to the gel's holding area. I respect it is your ship Captain but I'm sure I don't need to explain the value and importance of the cargo in question."
"No sir." Several hundred litres was no small quantity and equally of considerable value. Will knew the dangers and benefits of such gel, he only hoped that with it on board would not paint a target on his back.
"The Gel will be beamed to the designated holding area, your Chief Medical Officer will accept delivery upon confirmation of safe stowage. I will leave the security precautions in your hands Captain." Only a brief pause before he resumed. "We will be sending the new scientific head of the colony with you, she will transport down to the surface with the supplies, a...Dr Bethanie Farrell. Please have quarters arranged for her also."
"Understood." Fetch and carry was hardly what Will had hoped for he first mission of this brand new ship but maybe something easy as playing ferry was to be welcomed.
The link ended and the data had finished sending. Will was no stranger to secrecy but this was going to extreams. He sent notifications to Commander Reign about the security requirements, another to Dr Patrovski to inform him of the arrival of equipment and supplies coming on board. He also sent a note to Chief Engineer Bradshaw so that he could ensure all equipment was stowed, even if it meant a security escort since Bradshaw was not on the list of approved officers. Will could only hope that the Gel and the equipment were stored separately.
