Mission:
What Stalks The Night
Location: Cargo Bay
Bio-mimetic gel, BJ thought as she looked at the cargo manifest contents on her PADD. "Who in Gre'thor decided it was a good idea to bring this onto a Federation ship?" she asked no one. "Better question is why the hell I wasn't notified in advance?"
The Chief of Security wanted to bang someone's head off the nearest bulkhead, but grabbed the PADD and headed out to the cargo bay. "Everyone out!" she shouted as she entered through the blanking screen.
Two officious looking Starfleet officers, one higher ranked than her and one looking like a generic yes man who would do whatever his superior told him to do happily, stood there. Four other burly Security officers, though not hers, were also there looking intimidating. The senior officer, a Commander, approached her. "And I'm assuming you would be Lieutenant Commander Reign?" he asked as he gestured to his adjutant who shoved a PADD her way.
"That's me and you're in possession of contraband as far as the United Federation of Planets is concerned," BJ said as she grabbed the PADD and scanned it.
"The United Federation of Planets and Starfleet don't answer to you, however, Lieutenant Commander," the Commander said. "What your job is is to ensure that each of these four hundred and seventy-five liters of it is secured and to make sure no one else gets in here."
"This stuff is used in the creation of biogenic weapons and organic explosives, as well as illegal genetic and cloning experiments," she said hotly but stopped when she saw the signature approval of a Starfleet Admiral in the documentation of it. "Has Doctor Petrovski been..."
"Yes, the Doctor has already inspected it," the Commander cut her off. "And so has your commanding officer, who initially accepted the cargo per his orders. Now do you mind doing your job so I can continue with mine and make sure this gets to Velara III safely?"
BJ wanted to growl and debated protesting this with Hood, but the signature preempted that or anything else she could protest. "I understand," she said reluctantly and began to go over the Security measures that had been used to get the gel there. With a sigh, she thumbed the PADD and handed it back to the flunky while ignoring him otherwise.
"Good. Now if you could be a bit quicker about it, I can go and do something more important," the Commander said as a woman in a blue uniform approached and introduced herself as Doctor Li Palmers. The medical officer rattled off standard medical precautions which was already in place and then headed off herself.
"Yeah, I understand," BJ said even as the woman headed off. "Rude." She grunted and began to have transport inhibitors brought in, portable force field generators with backup power supplies, a level five lock on the cargo bay doors and every other precaution she could take on top of having four of her officers inside the cargo bay and four more outside. Finally, she approached the Commander and gave him her own PADD to thumb.
"It's done," she said.
The lackey took the PADD and reviewed it, then handed it to the Commander who took his time looking over everything as well. "As good as can be expected," he mumbled before he thumbed it. "If anything happens to it en route, you will be held directly responsible."
"Understood," BJ said simply. The sooner she was able to get him off the ship, the sooner she could bury this cargo bay in layers of invisibility and hoped that no one else had a need to know about it. She planned on talking to Hood soon, but if only to air her displeasure. With the last transport inhibitor set up, the Commander and his flunky left with their four Security officers, then she raised the force fields and activated the door locks after she exited.
She knew that with a valuable and deadly shipment like this, it would only be a matter of time before someone else found out and tried to take it. With a sigh, she headed for the bridge.
