Mission:
What Stalks The Night
Location: Away Team
It sounded distant though but it was there and unmistakable. "I hope we didn't just ring the dinner bell...."
An eerie silence fell over the engineering section, the already palpable tension becoming even thicker. There were a few audible gasps, the sound of phasers being drawn from the security details surrounding them.
"Stay calm and stay quiet," Bianca ordered, keeping her voice low. "Lieutenant Hebron, I want security at the door and at any other access point to this section, make sure everything is covered." She could feel her own heartbeat quickening in response to the newly increased threat.
Vic started to give hand signals to the security detail that they had which was wishing was much larger now. Vic posted up in the middle of the room so he had the ability to see all access points on a swivel. Security officers started to cover doors and drew on the access vents as well. No idea what the noise was but it definitely wasn't friendly
[[ anyone want to respond to the noise? ]]
Bianca turned back to James. "Is there any chance you can use this," she motioned around the room with one hand, "to get us out of here? Or at least contact the ship?"
James looked around and there was nothing, this was the generator room. He thought about maybe overloading a minor reactor for an energy spike before it crashed but the power grid was far too fragile for that. Communications was to control and this room only and so far he'd seen nothing in terms of a link to the surface.
Before James had a chance to properly respond, the sound of screaming could be heard echoing in the corridors outside. Unholstering her phaser, Bianca moved to the door, glancing at one of the security guards standing next to Vic. "Keep everyone in here unless I specifically say so. Lieutenant Hebron, you're with me," she finished, pushing the door open and stepping into the corridor.
The XO was spunky and fearless. Two qualities Vic liked in leaders. He acknowledged and followed out the door into the hallway. He had wanted to be in front in case something happened but right now he was going with the flow.
The sight in front of them was something fresh from a horror movie. The creature lifted Jack from the floor, its wounded prey, bleeding, moaning, unable to fight. It threw Jack against the wall with enough force that the sound of breaking bones could be clearly heard over Jack's cries. As his body crumbled to the floor again, the creature slashed toward him, tearing open part of his shoulder, chest and neck, leaving bone visible, tatters of flesh and uniform hanging.
At the sound from behind, the creature turned slowly, a steely gaze resting on Bianca and Vic who been drawn into the corridor by Jack's screams.
It took only a second or two for Bianca to assess the situation. There was nothing that could be done for Jack, if he wasn't already dead his injuries were too severe and they would not be able to save him. "Get back inside!" Bianca shouted as the creature fled back into the nearest vent.
It was only once they were back inside the door between them and the corridor barricaded, that Bianca glanced around, pale faced, her gaze finally settling on Vic. "What the hell was that?"
"Nothing I have ever seen." Vic said listening to any noise from the vents. "We need to go retrieve Jack." He said of the crewman he had just meet on the away mission. "We are not leaving anyone behind."
Bianca sighed heavily as the security team moved into positions around the rest of them, guarding anything that even remotely looked like it could be construed as a vent or an access point. "No," she replied quietly. "Not yet. I'm not sending anyone else out there until we know that that *thing* is dead, what ever it is... though I'm betting our friend there knows a bit more about it than he's letting on," she said with a nod toward Stefan. "We won't leave anyone behind, but there's nothing Commander Patrovski can do for him now. We need to make sure everyone else is safe. The needs of the many."
Vic didn't like it but he understood. This is why he will never be an XO or above. "Lock this room down. Till we get some better intel and or some backup would be nice." Vic told his team as he turned to Stefan staring a hole though him for information.
"Lieutenant Bradshaw, not to put too fine a point on it, but this would be a really great time to make some magic happen, any chance you can find a way for us to get out of here?" Bianca asked calmly as she turned her attention toward the Engineer.
"In case you have not noticed Commander, one way in, one way out. This is the reactor room. The only way we are leaving is through 'that' door." James replied. "Your only option is out the door, turn right, next junction take a right." That would lead the team to the areas they had yet to explore, but it was the only option that didn't take them towards recent death.
