Mission: New Faces and Terror Beyond
Location: Bawden's Quarters

With my 'incarceration' at home instead of my office I had to make sure that things still ran smoothly, I couldn't just leave things alone and wouldn't be fair on Charlotte to pick up without a briefing of things that only I would know as CSEC. It was not my idea of fun, I felt useless. I had no doubt Charlotte could handle it but I had little choice but to follow the Doctors orders and behave, especially since the Mrs was also on the Doc's side.

=^= Beckett, it's Bawden. Could you join me in my quarters please? =^= No sooner had I said that I sighed and rubbed my brow. That didn't sound too cheesy now did it?

I thought to myself, "Uh oh Charlie, now you're in trouble." I wasn't expecting my superior to call me in to his, oh wait, his quarters? =^= Beckett here, on my way.=^= I couldn't stop wondering what he wanted to talk to me about. I threw on my uniform and made my way to his quarters. Once there, I stood there for what seemed an eternity, then rang the chime. I felt nervous for some reason.

"Yeah come in." I was sat at my desk with everything I needed to do some kind of hand over. I had a ringing headache but the Dr told me to expect some of those in the coming days. The doors opened and Lt Beckett was standing there. "Come in, take a seat."

I took a deep breath and exhaled as I walked in. My eyes wandered, taking in everything around me. I walked over to the chair and sat down. My focus was now solely on him. I could tell by his eyes that he wasn't up to par. I smiled at him, "Thank you."

"With my condition as it may I've been taken from active duty. That said I can't leave thing unattended so I've called you. I want you to fill in for me while I recover." I pushed over a small stack of PADD's to her. "Most of it is routine but with the new CO I'd like to keep things on the ball in case he should ask."

"Me sir?" As soon as those words came out of my mouth, I wanted to pull them back. Of course he meant me as there wasn't anyone else in the room. I was a little surprised, maybe even in shock. It was so unexpected. I felt my cheeks flush at such a stupid answer. "Sorry, I mean, I would be happy to. I just thought that you would want someone who has been here longer."

"I don't care about term of service, what I do care is ability to get results and your record suggests just that, so here you are." I replied as I began my speal of the runnings so far then came to a more delicate subject. "Just keep an eye on the Captain, hes new and still adjusting so, if anything let me know and I can help steer you in the right direction."

Something changed inside me. His faith in me gave me confidence, something I have lacked lately, "Thank you sir. I will." I observed him for a moment, "So how is your recovery going, if I may ask?"

"Slow...too slow for my liking but I'm told that if I don't play ball the Doctor will apply more restrictions." I hated being cooped up but I knew if I didn't then home would become Sickbay under constant supervision and I'd rather have the Mrs around to eye up than Dr Patrovski.

I nodded in agreement, "I get it. There's nothing worse than being a prisoner in your own quarters." I smiled, indicating I was joking, "Don't you worry about a thing." Maybe it was selfish of me but I needed him to recover quickly. I was feeling confident but still had a small thought in the back of my mind that something major might happen and I would make a mess of things. But I certainly wasn't going to let him know that, not when he has so much faith in me.

"The teams knows what is going on, Sally my Administrative Assistant can help you as she knows what is going on. Use the team, they don't bite, only I do." Hoping that wouldn't get back to the Mrs because she'd set that one straight. "Though I am off duty, don't be afraid to contact me if there is anything you are unsure of."

I was happy to know that, "I'm not afraid of a few little bites sir. And I promise if they can't help me, I will come see you. Hopefully, I won't have to." I looked at the PADDs sitting there, knowing that I had homework to do.

"Fair enough, well if there isn't anything else I'll leave you do it before I get hounded for working." I sat back in the chair feeling tired and slightly drained.

I stood up and gathered the PADDs. As I approached the door, I turned to him, "Get better. Hope you have a speedy recovery." As I walked out, I felt an unexpected calm that I hadn't experienced in a long time.
